Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

PS3 Audio Output Problems

I own one of the original (bought on November 17th 2006) 60GB PlayStation 3s. I have it connected to my Samsung HDTV via HDMI. The TV outputs to my 7.1-channel Sony reciever via an Optical cable.

The sound settings are currently set to Dolby Digital 5.1, 5.1 channel 44.1khz, 5.1 channel 48khz and the default two (2 channel 44.1khz and 2 channel 48khz)

Some of the sound that shold be made is distorted, or not there at all. In the briefing scenes of Metal Gear Solid 4, Snake's voice is not there, but just an echo of it that is supposed to be played as well as his voice. Also in Metal Gear Solid 4, the music plays in full surround and some of the voices play.

In Madden NFL 09, some of the sounds don't play, including the commentators, whcih are just echos, like the earlier stated problem.

Does anyone know a working combination of output frequencies?
Thanks in advance,
Jack

Wait, the sound card in the PlayStation 3 or "sound chip" in the reciever?

BTW, the PS3 outputs all sound fine on just the two default 2.1 frequencies, and the Comcast box can output in 5.1 Dolby Digital just fine.

Inside of most any system there is what I like to call the sound chip, I am not sure what the actuall name ofit is. This sound chip is the final stage of amplification of the circuit board before going out to the any other sound device. I have found in several cases that this single chip goes bad. Depending on what brand it is the cost to replace this single chip can be anywhere from a few dollars up to a little less than $100. As for the being able to hear certain parts of saound what is happening is the chip is divided up into several different channels thus if just a few channels of the chip goes out all you would hear is the background noise or nothing at all depending what you are playing.

Samsung TV Is Not Picking Up A Playstation 3 HDMI Signal

If you are able to connect your PS3 to another TV using the same HDMI cable that would rule out your PS3, if it works.....or
does the PS3 itself have any settings that perhaps need to be set to an HDMI output as opposed to Composite or SCART etc?
Also have a look at the HDMI settings in theh TV menu too.

I can't get a signal between my Sony Blu-Ray Disc/DVD Player and Samsung HDTV monitor. They are connected via a HDMI cable. A brief message on the HDTV reads "Not supported".

First, try to reset resolution of HDMI Sony BD output.
Unplug HDMI cable from TV and change to Component connection to reset BD output resolution.
Than after you entered to resolution menu, choose to standart resolution 720 or 480 i.
If above methode working, try to reconect HDMI cable again to HD TV.
If any problem with picture or still "Not Supported" messege appear, i suggest to change HDMI cable first.
i hope its work.

I have a Playstation 3/blu ray player and I don't know how to get hi def video on a samsung hln467w

Your TV only has a DVI input, not an HDMI which PS3 has as an output. You can buy a HDMI to DVI adapter and connect the HDMI out of the PS3 to the DVI input of the TV. To get the true HighDef video you need a HDMI input on the TV to enjoy the full capacity of the Blu ray capabilities of the PS3. DVI came out before the HDMI standard and your picture will look good but not like HDMI. I have the same problem with my samsung 65 inch. I Bought the wrong technology. I hope this helps and good luck!

PS3 no picture on screen. Borrowed Unit from a friend.

If the TV was originally set up on an HDTV via HDMI cables you'll have to reset the video/audio outputs on the PS3. When you turn the PS3 on hold your finger down on the button until it beeps a second time, then remove your finger and let the console restart. That should reset the PS3's video output.

PS3 no longer communicating with TV

All: Try this -

P
erform the following steps to reset the Video Output Settings.
  1. Make sure the HDMI cable is connected to the [HDMI OUT] port on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the [HDMI Input] port of the TV or display monitor.
  2. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.
  3. Turn ON the PLAYSTATION 3 and once the system finishes powering up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor). [If resetting does not auto-detect your HDTV, see next step below.]
NOTE: As of system software update version 1.60, the PLAYSTATION 3can automatically detect an HDMI connection to a TV. If the PLAYSTATION 3 is turned on with an HDMI cable connected, the screen for switching video output settings will be displayed automatically. (Does not function unless the TV that is connected by the HDMI cable is turned on.)

As of version 1.80 of the system update for the PLAYSTATION 3, the PLAYSTATION 3 can upscale the video content of PlayStation® format software, PlayStation®2 format software, and DVDs to HD resolution.

If Resetting the Video Output Setting Did NOT Detect Your HDTV Automatically (Certain TV's Only)
With certain televisions, the PLAYSTATION 3 may not automatically detect the HDMI source (TV) which it is plugged into, even after resetting the Video Output Setting (as described above).

If resetting the Video Output Setting did not work, you may need to follow these steps to manually locate the HDMI source:

1. Connect both the AV Cable and the HDMI cable from the PLAYSTATION 3 to the corresponding (AV and HDMI) ports on your TV. 2. Proceed with resetting the Video Output Setting on the PLAYSTATION 3 again. (Follow these steps, then continue to step 3 below.)
3. Turn the TV channel to the corresponding "Input" or "Video" channel for the AV Cable connection.
4. Manually change the Video Output Settings to HDMI. (Follow these steps, then continue to step 5 below.)
5. Now switch the "Input" or "Video" channel on the TV for the HDMI port the PLAYSTATION 3 is currently plugged into.
6. Accept the display settings for HDMI before the timer runs out (30 seconds). Highlight "Yes" and press the X button.
7. You can now disconnect AV Cable from the PLAYSTATION 3 and the TV, as it is no longer needed.

Hooking up home theater

Run a regular RCA type audio cable from your TV audio out to your Home Theatre audio in. That is what I have done recently with my Samsung LCD and Home Theater. You then have to put your Home Theater on Aux 1 or Aux 2 to get the sound from TV. Ensure your TV's volume is off.

Hdmi Issue

Most new HDMI DVD players use High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP)on the HDMI output. If you try to play this on an older TV that is not compliant with these new standards it will not work. This standard came out late in 2004 that is why your older player still works. There is also a service bulletin from JVC about upgrading the software on your TV for HDMI compatiblity issues. If you want a pdf file of the bulletin I can send it to you.
