I have the 8 mm tapes. I really don't know much about them. Do you think it would still work. I really want to be able to download to my computer and put them on a DVD.

Do not remember which cords to use to download my tape to my computer.

I don't know about downloading to a computer, but you can buy a VCR/DVD recorder for about $140, put the VHS-C cartridge in the adapter and transfer to a DVD, or plug your Camcorder into a DVD recorder (about $119) and copy. It couldn't hurt to check out some of the transfer services that could do a little editing and copying for a modest fee.

Sorry, I didn't realize the Sharp was an 8mm. I don't think the VHS-C to DVD solution will work because of incompatible formats, but the other two will.

Download correct software to burn dvd off of camcorder

You do not need the manual, you need the white DV cable that comes with the view cam. it connects into the DV port on the left side of the camera theto the "Y" port located next to the usb ports in the front of the hard drive. Turn the camera to VCR and XP will automatically open the CD wizard and follow the prompts. then use any burning device on your computer, mine is Media Center to make a DVD. Its easy for those challenged like myself!

1. You need a firewire cable to connect camcorder to the computer.
2. Use the CD that came with the camcorder to install drivers.
3. The computer will detect it when you power ON the camcorder.
4. Use Windows Vista MovieMaker (free) to transfer and "edit" video and/or create a DVD disc

Want to transfer videos from a mini DV cassette to computer.

Hi
Basically what you need is a video card in your computer. Then you can connect your AV/S cable from the camcorder to the computer video card. When you buy a new video card, it usually comes with a free basic editing software which you can use to capture the video on your computer. Hope this helps.

Get a firewire (IEEE-1394) cable insteaad of trying to use USB. Make sure that both camera and computer have firewire ports. Set camera to Tape/VCR or whatever setting you use when you playback your tape on your camcorder. Just leave it on that setting, don't hit "Play" or anything. Make sure that you have rewinded to the spot where you want it to start (a few seconds before, actually).

If you have WIndows Vista, you don't need drivers. The built-in Windows Photo Gallery will recognize it and will ask you if you want to transfer the tape. It will walk you through the whole process, if you want to transfer the whole tape or only parts of it. If you don't have Vista, you might try downloading Windows Live Photo Gallery but I don't know if it has the same functionality.
