No Temperature Display on Garmin 4208 - GSD 22 - Transom Transduc

Hello all, I am not receiving a temp reading on my Garmin 4208 which is connected to a GSD 22 sonar and transom mount transducer. It appears the speed and sonar operation is working ok but no temperature reading. Any thoughts on where to look to fix the problem? Thank you.

My Garman gps map 498 turns on but stays to dark to read or see.

It's probably the ccfl is burned out. The illuminator is a very interesting (and very thin) little contraption. Inside the illuminator is an L-shaped ccfl (cold cathode fluresent lamp.) They run at very high voltages. Eventually the ccfl burns out.
Go to www.ccflwarehouse.com. They can fix you up with a mail-in replacement for around $35.

The GSD 22 is discontinued. I would not buy any electronics that are discontinued, because there has to be a reason.

If I were in your shoes I would be looking a full change to either the brand leaders, Raymarine or Humminbird. I have had Humminbird since 2007 with a 798SI and since 2014 with a 998SI HD. 100% reliable for GPS and depth. Boat used twice a week May to October. The 998 has features to set a chart course and I do that when coming from Toronto to Port Credit. Humminbird also do full chart plotters, but in Georgian Bay, I wouldn't have thought necessary unless you use an auto-pilot. Uses Blue Chart maps.

You aren't the only one to have problems. Read the link below.

I did find this thought and there are others in the thread

Make certain that the transducer(s) cable is separated from any engine power cables. When those wires cross or are bundled together, the highly sensitive sonar signal gets polluted with high amp noise bleeding off the engine wires, and you're lucky to get any signal.
To test if this is the problem, shut your engines off and see if you get a good sonar view. Then start the engines and see if the same sonar quality is displayed. If it degrades, you've got the current bleeding problem.
I had this problem when I installed the new gear (Furuno 585, Airmar b60) and ended up re-routing the transducer cable using some "wire hangers" to keep the transducer cable away from the others. Now I get a firm fix on the bottom at all speeds and the only time the display gets lost is when I reverse the starboard engine, from air bubbles under the thru-hull.

Sounds like your battery has gone bad to me. I also own a garmin. I would suggest you contact garmin for repairs. You can go to their web site at www.garmin.com go to the top of the page where it says My garmin and log in to your account. If you don't have one then sign up for one its free. Then contact technical support either by email or by phone to get your unit repaired.

I hope this helps you out if it does please give me a YES on the web page you just received my response on. Thank you

Unable to track the bottom

I think you need to level the transducer. You have it pointed way out in front of you so that when you're going fast it is able to bounce the signal off the bottom and it comes back to where the boat has traveled to. When you're going slow you're bouncing it out in front of you but it comes back up in front of you. Sorry but I can't find a picture of a Garmin transducer. Hope this helps.

Make sure all three T-connectors are connected and that you connect the YELLOW cable to the last one. This yellow cable will need to be connected to power. Then you will get GPS link up.

GSD 20 power problem

I'm not sure what you mean by "cannot get the sounder to power up". Are you not getting power to theGSD20, or are you not getting the sounder to display on the screen? I can probably help you with this but I need some more information.

If you are getting power to the GSD 20 sounder, it will have a flashing LED next to the cables that plug into the GSD 20 box. What color is it and what is the flash pattern (how many flashes, and fast or slow?) When you power up the GSD20 does the color or flash pattern change.

I'll watch for your response here.

No guage screen on my garmin 4208

Need more info:

Is your Garmin hooked up to your engine's computer via an NMEA 2000 data cable?

The gauge option will not appear in the menu if the GPS does not recognise the data coming from your engine. (If you turn on the GPS simulator, you should see the gauges on that screen.)

There are 3 possible reasons that the gauges do not appear in the menu:

1) improper wiring between engine and gauges.

2) GPS has not been set up to receive data in the GPS's NMEA setup menu.

3) Engine has not been set up to send NMEA data.

This is a relatively new feature that only works on newer engines that are NMEA 2000 capable, such as Volvo and Evinrude Etec.  The engines usually need an optional instrument package to make use of the NMEA 2000 system.

We're just scratching the surface here, please reply with any questions.
