Replace DVD drive doesnot need Sata adapter, check your dvd and your board if they are compitatble, if your dvd is sata and your board use sata too, you just need sata cable + the dc cable comes from power supply.

How do you install an lg gh24ls70 dvd rewriter into a compaq presario computer runnining windows xp that is 8 years old

If it's a sata connection on the drive you may not have any sata sockets on the motherboard. You will need something like an IDE to Sata adapter like this one: Adapter.

I want to install a CD/DVD RW drive. This is in addition to the installed CD/DVD already in place. The new drive has a SATA connection on the back, and the only available connector is an IDE connector....

There are IDE to SATA adapters and cables, such as this one linked below. IDE to SATA Adapter
You would simply plug this adapter into the available IDE connection on your motherboard, then use the SATA data and power cable to connect from the adapter to the CD/DVD drive. You can look around online for similar products, but they should get the job done!

This model DVD/CD writer is a SATA drive and unless your motherboard has a SATA connector then you have a slight problem. You will need to purchase a SATA controller and install it into your PCI expansion slot, then connect your new DVD/CD drive to this SATA controller. You will also need a SATA adapter power cable converter which plugs into the 4 pin power connector.

Can I put internal LG GH22 rewriter inside external GSA-E60N

First, open the external casing.
You'll find an "internal" CD/DVD drive, connected to an adapter, and the adapter connects to the USB cable.

Now, look at the adapter -- it could be a "parallel-ATA" interface, or it could be a "SATA" interface. The new CD/DVD drive will have to have the same connectors (data and power) as the adapter.

You might have to exchange the SATA device for a Parallel-ATA device.

If you have a parallel-ATA CD/DVD drive, look at the back of it.
There is a tiny jumper, and a few labelled settings:

* MA(ster)
* SL(ave)
* C(able)S(elect)

Move the jumper to the 'MA' setting, so that the USB-adapter will recognize the CD/DVD drive.

Connect the drive to the adapter.
Close the case.
You're good to go!

Install IDE devices (drives / DVD / CDROM) sata

IDE devices have different "data" and "power" connectors than SATA drives.

So, you need a motherboard with IDE connectors, if you wish to connect an IDE disk-drive (or CD/DVD), and you need a motherboard with SATA connectors, if you wish to connect a SATA device.

Similarly, the connectors on the power-supply must be compatible with the sockets on the disk-drive (or CD/DVD) drives, so that the devices can get power.

You could possibly purchase a short IDE-to-SATA power-adapter, if you have a SATA device, but there are no SATA power-connectors on your power-supply.

Gear Head Lightscribe 24x DVD+/-R Triple Format SATA

Your original CDROM drive is likely an IDE interface (large rectangular connector), where as the new one is a SATA interface (small narrow connector). If your original is an IDE, the simplest solution is to return the SATA and purchase an IDE DVD.

Recognizing my sata DVD writer in bios mode

How about a work-around?
(Your post is so old now that you probably figured out a solution . . . so this is for other readers)

I have the exact same motherboard, and a SIMILAR problem.
I have a PATA CD/DVD drive . . . so no problem there.
But I have a SATA hard drive, and the BIOS does NOT see it.
So when I boot from the WinXP CD, that is fine,
but then the install process claims I have no hard drive!
So how can I reinstall WinXP to a hard drive that doesn't exist yet?

Solution that didn't work:
So I knew the ASUS SATA driver (embedded in their RAID driver) needed to be loaded,
and TRUE, the WinXP install process gave me the opportunity (via F6 key) to install any
additional driver for a mass storage device. Great! So, with the latest driver on the floppy
from ASUS using their "MakeDisk" utility, I let the Windows install process read in the driver.
Well, it made the hard disk visible to the installation . . . sort of . . . but then it took me
to the Recovery Console (which I didn't want or need) rather than the Repair Install process
(and there was no "R" option available to initiate the Repair). So, gave up on that!

Solution that I think is sure to work:
Go to Ebay, and buy from Hong Kong a PATA to SATA adapter for about $7.50 including shipping. It is a great deal! And customer ratings gave HIGH marks, so the seller is trustworthy.
Make sure not to buy the SATA to PATA (the other direction), and also, I'd suggest buying the
version in which the little adapter card plugs directly (without a cable) into the PATA socket
on the motherboard, and then plug the SATA cable from it to the SATA hard drive (or the
SATA CD/DVD drive in your case). Connect the power jacks as needed. And presto!
You have converted the PATA interface to a SATA interface which needs no SATA driver!
The BIOS will see the SATA drive as a PATA drive (how clever!). After doing the WinXP
install or whatever, switch back to the way things were and save your adapter card for next time.
