Question about Sony VAIO K15 Notebook
I installed a new seagate hard drive to the laptop but no primary drive shown , only cd drive shows
Did you config as primary or slave?...jumper setting?
Try entering BIOS before your Operating System begins to boots up.
BIOS must recognize it before Windows ever will.

If the drive hasn't been formatted, that is normal.
On some systems, you also have to force the BIOS to recognize the drive by entering the BIOS setup (check with Sony or manual to learn the key needed).
Once you know the proper key to tap at power on (it varies, sometimes F1, F2, Esc - who knows?), you will be presented with a simple text screen with a number of different selectable items.
Choose 'Set factory defaults' and the BIOS should look for the drive and set the parameters for you.
If that still doesn't work, check through the other BIOS items and you should find 'Detect fixed (or hard) drive.'
Sometimes installing a larger drive than the original can cause problems and if the BIOS is older, it may set the drive parameters of the original drive and ignore the excess capacity.

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA
the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electic extensions or just replace them they are probably faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error hope this helps don
