Theres an ip address conflict when i use my 8 port NWAY switch

You need a router to use the hub or switch. It provides the IP routing. Make sure the Router is set DHCP. If you have all this correctly setup then try:
Go to Start > Search (Run in XP) and type cmd and hit ENTER. In the command prompt type ipconfig /release and hit ENTER. Then type ipconfig /renew ENTER. This just refreshes your IP. Test it.

How to Check TCP/IP Configuraitons

The first step in the troubleshooting process is to check the TCP/IP settings. You can check it by using the IPCONFIG/All command on the command prompt. You will see the configuration results. If you see a blank configuration for a card this means then the card is not assigned any IP address. You can assign the IP address manually or via DHCP server. If you are using the DHCP server for assigning the IP addresses then you can use the following commands to get and release the IP address.
IPConfig/Release
IPConfig/Renew
IPConfig/All
If the computer is still unable to obtain an IP address, then there are several things that can causing this problem such as bad network cable or NIC card, DHCP server might have assigned all the IP addresses from its pool, mis-configured TCP/IP settings, incorrect user name and password. You can try to add a new well configured machine to the replace the malfunctioning machine to see if the new machine is working with its settings. Also see if the driver of the NIC is properly installed or not. In case of driver's problem go to the vendor's website and install a new exact driver for the NIC.

What is the default IP address of D-Link DES-1024R for accessing from PC for switch management?

the usual ip add of a Hub or Router or Switch is either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. to determine the Ip Add you can check it - Start - Run (for XP) - type Run in the search box and use the Run command - in the Run Box type in "CMD" - a small black box will pop up (that's the command prompt) - then type in "ipconfig" - look for the "default gateway" that's the ip add of the switch or hub or router.
Hope this helps

Hi I have a linksys router that had 3 computers working on it lately my telco has updated me to a new router so I now use my linksys router as a hub or switch(not sure which) one of my computers works but...

Hi Louie
the first thing i would check would be if there stale dns entries on either of the two that wont  connect using your linksys.

if you open a command prompt, in XP, go to start menu>>run and type in cmd
vista and windows 7, go to start menu, in the search box, do search for cmd

once the black window comes up, type in,  ipconfig /flushdns

(keep this window open)

then try connecting to the net. if that doesnt work, then in the same black window, type   ipconfig /all

for your machine ip address it should show something like  192.168.1.xxx   usually the first number is one but sometimes 2, but can be any number up to 255.

if this shows a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx number then your computer is not talking to your router.

in that black window, type in   ipconfig /release
if this is successful then you will see the message telling you that the adapter ip was successfully released.

then type in   ipconfig /renew

if this doesnt help then if you repost can help you with your router troubleshooting.

hope this helps

Wrong ip address. No fix w/ipconfig/renew

192. is the beginning of a default gateway IP address and is usually only assigned when you are using a router. I recommend connecting to your router.

Adding additional computer problem

Yes, the xp machine connects to the net. DHCP is not enabled. The ipconfig/all command brings up the correct static ip address, subnet mask, and default gateway. But it does also say under the ip configuration that ip routing is not enabled. I did have the 2000 machine connected when I first set up the router yesterday, but I booted up my laptop to try to set up a wireless connection, and then I had to reinstall the entire router set-up.

Linksys router befw11s4

The easiest way to sort it is to enter your routers settings page in your internet browser or desktop icon and make sure you enable DHCP which will give your pc an automatic ip address. Make sure WEP or similair is off until the set up is sorted out. Next go to your properties of your wireless adapter(Card) and go to internet TCP/IP and click properties and make sur 'Obtain IP address automatically is ticked. No click Start, then Run then type:- ipconfig /flushdns then press enter.(note the gap between ipconfig and the /). Restart your pc and router and try connecting again
