Truck show its charging at about 18 volts. When warmed up drops down to about 16.5 volts. Changed Altenator and battery and still doing the same thing. Any idea why it wont charge at 14 volts?

Not on new vehicles , you never ever pull a battery cable while it is running ! A voltage spike can take out electronic components ! That was 60's an maybe a few 70's vehicles ! That change when they started using transistors in voltage regulators an in engine modules. If it is show 14 volts it's charging ! I will send a link on how you test the charging system. How To Check Charging System EricTheCarGuy
the battery is probably bad, one way to test it is conduct a load test. Hook a voltage meter to the battery post and have someone try to start the truck. If the voltage drops below 10.4 volts DC, replace the battery.
The charging system on your vehicle is controlled by the PCM powertrain control module . The PCM will send a message to the instument cluster on the class 2 serial data network to turn on the charging light if it see's or think;s there is a problem with the charging system . Should have a code stored . Have autozone check for codes.
your entire electrical system requires a minimum of 12.6 volts to operate correctly - if you don't have enough voltage then the system can react very unpredictably - check the voltage across the battery - if it is not 12.6 volts then charge or replace the battery to get the correct voltage - then start the vehicle and the voltage should increase to 13.5 to 15 volts - if the voltage does not increase, then the alternator is not charging and will need to have the electrical system serviced or the alternator replaced - good luck with your repairs
The regulator is in the alternator. Did you check voltage at the battery? Nothing in the diagram jumps out at me. Is the check engine light on? Maybe we could get a hint if there was a trouble code.
you need to check the charging system with a multimeter ,start the vehicle and turn on the high beams and the heater fan to high, and put four ways on,now check what voltage reading you have at the battery post,it should not even be lower than 12.5 volts.
have the battery tested, a shorted cell in the battery can cause an overchargre (anything over 15 volts) condition, also verify at the battery that the system charging voltage is 16 volts.
Sounds like low voltage. Get a boost from another car with a good set of cables. Once started check voltage with booster car disconnected. Is it around 14 volts? If so,the truck is charging, so it may be time for a new battery.
If the voltage is at 12 or lower while running the truck is not charging. May be time for a new alternator.
The battery should have charged enough in 1 hour to start the truck. You may need a battery and alternator.
