Question about Sony KV-35S42 35" TV

1 Answer

Tv won't power up

We recently had a power failure with power surges prior to the failure. When the power returned, my TV will only blink the red "standby" light continuously. I tried unplugging the unit for a day, no dice. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Tv won't power up

Your regulator might be blown, & the red led is an indication your standby supply is still up. I can't recall the part #, its MX ### something, but there will most likely be a .22 ohm resistor feeding it, it'll be blown to

Loud pop from surge protector that results in intermittent sound on Samsung 46" tv

I hope the surge protector is separate from your TV. It has Varistors in it that are supposed to pass overvoltage surges (it can happen without the power going out) then recover to normal. But sometimes they overheat, then they can become a fire hazard. Or the contacts in the sockets can get charred and flakey. Anyway sounds like it is fried, the only easy solution is replace it. A careful tinkerer with a good scrounge box could fix it, if you know anybody like that.

Tv Won't come on

I suspect a power board failure but to be sure i would have to know how many times your light is blinking as there is a code to it. please repost with number of blinks. This is a common problem with this brand of sony televisions as far as I can tell from what i have been reading online. If you are still under warranty you should contact Sony. If you need further help from an expert please let us know the number of blinks.

Power went off will not turn on. When I replug tv in the red power light blinks for a monment then all power if gone. Is there an internal breaker? I was attempting to plug the jacks to my sterio through...

If the red light is blinking then the internal main fuse is good...sounds like the switchmode power supply regulator has gone may need to have a repairman look at it as it may be extensive due to power surge.

The red light on the front of the TV blinks all the time. No sound or picture. It is a Sony Model KV-21s65

The TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the TV detects an issue.
The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.

If the TV is plugged into a power strip or a surge protector, please remove it from the power strip or the surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet.
If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the TV.

Also try connecting the TV to different AC wall outlet and check if that helps.

If the issue persists, the TV needs to be Serviced.

The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired.

Please contact the local Authorized Service Center to get the TV serviced.

We got a power surge last night, now the TV will not come on. The red LED located in front of TV indicates power coming on pressing button but will start blinking monents later.

Possible that the surge had resulted in the SMPS- switch mode power supply - giving a higher output before it would have corrected but had resulted in the failure of some component.
Remove the panel if you can start the work armed with a multimeter, the mains power being put off. wear insulated slippers while probing the circuits specially when the power is switched for voltage checks.
first of all check the main power unit :click for tips on SMPS
If there was no fault noticed visually then check the processor controller section specially the voltage to the processor. If the +5 volt is missing check the regulator or the feed.
If there is power then check if the mP activates the HT circuit, if not the main board had errors to be looked into with a trace of the working voltages, look specially for charred or damaged components.

The red light on my tv blinks 4 times and will not turn on?

This is most likely due to the all-to-common power supply failure. You can test power with voltmeter

RCA 36'' TruFlat Model #36F530T

There is a good chance that the failure is in the main power supply.
A second chance is that the set is protecting itself from a failure after the supply; this is more likely to occur in the horizontal section where the highest power consumption occurs.
If the failure is in the supply, it could be a fairly reasonable cost repair. If in the horizontal section, depending on whether the failure is limited to a $10 horizontal output transistor or a bad flyback transformer. The transformer should still be available but with markup, shipping and installation, the cost could exceed the $100 US mark.
Generally, I have been recommending folks repair their old standard definition sets, buy a converter box for digital TV, and not dispose of them since the flat panel sets are dying like flies, often just after the warranty expires.   This would at least provide some kind of set when the expensive LCD or plasma sets go belly up.

Sony Trinitron Power Surge 5 Blinks

once you have diagnosed the problem, the following link is to all parts for your tv stocked at partstore. they generally have better prices than the dealers and repair shops.
KV-36fs13 parts

you can try the dead-tv kit from fixyourowntv if you have some basic experience with soldering and circuit repair.

Five blinks means, "IK (AKB)" (white balance). The probable causes listed by Sony are as follows:
1) Video OUT (IC561) is faulty (A board)
2) IC355 is faulty (A board)
3) Screen (G2) is improperly adjusted.

not sure what the 13 blinks are for.

hope this helps,
