Could be the remote sencer that is in the tv or bad swithes that are leaking. I have seen this happen before the sencer is a small electronic eye that picks up the signal from your remote when you push the buttons on it. The switches im talking about are small button switches that are soldered to a board right behind where you would push the power button and chanel buttons on the set itself. I would start with the switches frist if it was me. Some times you can trace the wires on the front where the switches are and unplug that set of wires and stil use the remote to turn on the set to see if it still does the same thing. The remote sencer on some models are pluged in seperate if so then this should help you to trouable shoot this problem.

I have a 6 year old(nov 04) Sony KV-30HS420 that turns off all by itself. The screen goes to green and the picture fades to black. The sound will keep playing for a few seconds then the TV will turn itself...

If the screen goes rather bright green it is one of two things:

1. It is possible it is a shorted green gun in the picture tube, there are three of them, red, green and blue guns in neck of the tube.

2. The other possible reason is there is a problem on the small circuit board at the end of the picture tube, this model should use three IC chips, one for each red, green and blue.

Being intermittent makes it hard to tell but ask the shop if they tried the self check this set should have. With the set turned off use the original Sony remote and hit Display, 5, vol down, and power.

If the set has a self check (it should) a box will appear on the screen with up to five items with a zero to the right of each, items will be like AKB, OVP, etc, and if any have something other than a zero to the right it pinpoints what happened.

Sets with this feature record each event where something goes wrong, ANYTHING other than a 0 indicates what failure was detected.

If I was to make a guess there will be a number next to AKB, which is Anti-Kine Bias, this means the picture tube or something on the board at the end of it drew too much current and the set's shut down circuit turned the set off.

I actually fixed one of these where both the blue and red IC chips on that board were bad, needless to say, I replaced all three of them.

Any good shop would know about the self check and even if the set did not shut down in the shop the self check would point to the area where the problem is.

Let me know if you need more help or find a error code.

My sony wega keeps cutting off then coming back .

a couple of years old can be a long time:

has the TV been on 24\7

It's the amount of hours that matters..

electrolytic capacitors typically last 3000 to 5000 hours....

Special "long life" caps last close to 7000
but the caps in most consumer electronics, even broadcast equipment 3-5K hours.

7 flashes on my 34HS420 Sony TV

7 blinks indicates problem of Horizontal deflection failure. Possible cause can be Horizontal Out Transistor and / or Fly-back Transformer shortage.
If you have TV repair experience and electronics knowledge background, let me know to guide you more OR take TV to local TV repair shop for proper fix.

52 HD Samsung tv turns off

I have the same problem with my 56" HD Samsung. It shuts off automatically and then on the power button the word Lamp is light up in green. Sometimes I can turn it back on but other times it won't and I have to wait a bit. It's been embarassing a couple times when people were over for a movie. I believe it might be some kind of overheating problem but would like someone to confirm this.

Sony KV-30HS420 turns off all by itself

This is less a solution than a work-around, but it does work for me, and it is free or low-cost.

I have had the same problem on the same Sony (model KV-30HS420),picture fading out to green then black, then turning off by itself, after which sometimes the light blinks 6 times, other times it blinks 7times. This started about four years after I bought it, which is not adecent lifetime for a CRT TV. It would happen anytime from 2 or 3 timesan hour to 30 to 40 times an hour. After getting absolutely nowherewith Sony, which was completely unresponsive and unhelpful, and which refusedto stand by their product or provide any useful information, I wasgetting ready to buy a new LCD TV, any brand but Sony (never buyanything from them again), when on a whim I decided to try one last stopgap solution.

I put a fan up against the side of the TV, blowing into the vents. Ithas been 3 days now, and not once has the fading and shutting downoccurred. So it looks like the fading out and shutting down wassomehow related to heat, and the ventilation seems to have solved it. I don't know why it should be a problem now, when it was not the first fewyears. It is also a mystery why Sony has not been able to figure thisout, since it is clear from online postings that many people have thisproblem with this model. Give this a try and see if it solves theproblem for you.
