Question about DeLonghi EAM3400 Espresso Machine

DeLonghi EAM3400 Magnifica with broken steam spout

We have a DeLonghi EAM3400 Magnifica  on which the steam arm has a plastic attachment of a plastic sleeve over an inner plastic spout. That inner plastic spout shot off the metal arm of the steamer the other day. We can't get it back on. There's a plastic residue of some kind on the metal arm. Since there are no threads on the inside of the plastic spout we thought perhaps this was a glue of some kind, but it would have to withstand high heat and pressure. We assume we can't replace the plastic valve, but is there a way? Can we order and install a new steam arm? I'm a handy person who works on computers and electronics. Is there a local repair shop in the Twin Cities (MN) so we don't have to ship it all the way out to California? Thanks, Susan

No offense to Irishwarrior but the answer to your question is yes, you can buy a replacement. Call Delonghi. The inner sleeve has a flat spot on the back that matches up with the steam wand. No glue, and o ring holds it in place, either the o ring is worn out or the hole in the bottom of the sleeve is partially clogged creating more pressure than the resistance of the o ring. A paper clip straightened out will "****" it out. If you need to replace the whole steam wand arm you would want to order a new "tap" valve. Delonghi can give you the # of an authorized service center where you can order one (Delonghi will not sell you "internal" parts)

You don't need to keep the plastic sleeve on the steamer. That's for creating more steam or frothing more than is necessary.
What I would suggest is this:Empty the espresso maker of all the water. Take it to the sink and with a scrub pad, remove ALL the plastic residue from the metal arm.
Then, set it back up, add water, coffee and when it's time to use the steamer, hold the cup under the arm, turn the steamer on and steam away!
There is no need for the plastic sleeve unless you want A LOT of foam and I have found that all it does is make a mess and is harder than **** to clean.
I hope I answered your question. If you have any more questions, please email me. Thanks!

Delonghi Magnifica My steam arm drips when I make coffee.

I initially replaced the o-rings in the pipe/valve assembly. It didn't work for long (not correct size o-rings probably). I then bought a new pipe-valve unit. To replace you need to pry off the stream handle (chromed plastic). It only fits one way on the axle (so take notice when replacing!). Then remove back and side covers (6 screws all at the back). Then remove top (2 screws each side at the front and a couple at the back). Then the front panel should be lose. (Instructions based on a slightly different model)

Mine made better coffee after I fixed the leak! A large portion (perhaps 25%) of the water intended for the coffee went via the steam wand straight into the drip tray, which is not good.

Steam wand on Vienna plus detached from arm

Lets first make sure you have all the parnello wand parts. The nut, hard plastic gasket, soft rubber gasket, the inner wand then the sleeve and the center in the sleeve. When putting it back together find the notch on the metal steam wand and slide the nut onto the wand, then add the rest in the order above.
