Check the 4 1000uF X10V capacitors on the main board ( under the shield) . I fixed my TV by replacing them. I had the loud hissign noise and the TV would shut down.

Common causes for whine or hiss sound:

A capacitor, often in the power board had blown and it is melting, and you hear hissing sound and have startup problems for this reason.

You have interfeerence phoenomena, move the set , or external speakers, this would not affect startup.

You have a faulty audio board inside TV, and must be replaced.

Harware issue.

Even if you unplug the TV many times or play with the cord, the issue would not be resolved. One of the experts hit the target by informing you regarding the circuit board.

There are different IC and compnent on the circuit board that maintains the health of a Tv. You need to sort out the board. If you are not technically accurate, i would not advise you to open the Tv at home and try to repair that. A small error by you can lead you to many bucks.

However, if you would be able to ddo it yourself, kindly let me know so that i would be able to tell you regarding the IC's that we might test.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Its most likely a capacitor starting to go bad, it will probably need to be replaced to fix the noise.

Unplug every exterwire connected at the back of the tv.also unplug the tv power cord wire for couple of hours.then again insert it and check out.insert only the tv power cord wire not all the other device wires to the back of the tv.as this can be the noise of any other device connected to the tv.or the internal failure in the tv main board first confirm it by unplugging it for couple of hours and replugging it.

Philips widescreen flat TV model #50PF9966-37 50" plasma, as the tv warms up a loud hissing sounds comes from the back. The hissing sound does not go away when you mute the broadcast sound. when you change...

From what I'm seeing online, the bulbs in the Ambilight may be the culprit. I also read that a firmware upgrade could fix the issue too. There was also a recall of some TV's with that issue, so I would check with Philips about your model and serial number and see if your TV was included in the recall. If you raise enough cain and threaten to never buy from them again, they may get your set fixed for you... even if the warranty is up!

Good luck and please post feedback!

Soon after turning on it makes a very loud screeching sound with verticle lines, and then turs off, eventually stops doing that after doing that for 5 or 6 times.

I fixed my TV with this same problem. The issue was 4 1000uF X10 V capacitors . they are located on the main board( under the shield) close to the connector that brings the power from the power board. It was easy to spot them because they were exploded (fat) . Replaced them and my TV is as good as new.

Phillips 19" flat screen

OK, I had the same problem and I fix it 100%.
The power board is ok, the lamps are ok, don't waste time there.
Just open the TV, remove the shield of the mainboard, and in the side where are the wires from the power board, there are many capacitors, check them, in my case 4 were "fat", exploded.
I had to change 9 to make shure, and that's all !!!

Philips 19pfl5422d/27 same sound problem

This should be a piece of cake for you.
The best thing you need is a Service Manual for the TV. Costs about less than $20 over the internet. It will have schematics, diagrams and part number list for the TV. It's the best thing to use for diagnosing the problem on the audio board. It maybe something simple like a conductive adhesive material for a heat-sink that spread to other contacts on the board.

Weird, annoying noise every so often

Is this happening on just on input?

If so... Check your connections. If you are using the component cables, make sure you haven't plugged the right audio into the red video input. it's a common mistake. I see it all the time.

If this is happening on all inputs, be sure the noise is coming from the speakers. Then replace the main board.

Philips flat screen TV MODEL ID 19PFL5422D/27

I bought the television less than a year ago, so I called Philips Magnavox and they asked for the serial and model numbers. Next thing I know they asked for my name and address and Philips is sending a brand new television to replace it !!! The new one should arrive in about ten days. How's that for service? I'm very happy that I bought Philips and I will do so again. So don't forget to keep all the paper work that comes with your new televisions, especially Model and Serial numbers ! Thanks for asking , Debbie Hoffman

Help - dead TV

The power supply in this model was terrible about having bad capacitors. The bad capacitors in this unit will have the top of teh can bowed out and browned. A qualified technician should be able to repair or replace the power supply.
