Question about Galaxy Radios DX-33HML 40-Channels Base CB Radio

3 Answers

Hi, I was given a DX 33 HML as a gift from my best friend for helping him out. We are both o/o truckers, I can not get it to transmit very far or recieve while in motion(in my pick up) however while sitting still it does both with great distance. I was also told that I am not allowed to use this radio without a liscense. I have been driving since '94 but know little about c.b.'s, only how to put them in and use them maybe tinker with the coax and things

Thanks, I think, now that you told me I'm an outlaw, I do have a cheap magnetic mount on the pick-up, did not want to drill any holes in my 43g toy, I'll wait until the wife puts the first dent in it first

magnum383, thanks for the info. I've been around c.b.s for years but never got into the tech side and know nothing about 10 m/11m. I hhave been twisting and turning knobs with no luck, but now I have a starting piont thanks to you, still learning, ( I was told that I do need a liscense)

A) The DX33HML is a 10meter radio. this is true.
B) AS long as you place the HI/LO band switch in the high mode and the band knob (D/A E/B F/C) in the D/A mode you will only transmit on the (11meter band 26.965 thru 27.405 AKA the C.B. band) ch1 thru 40. You will not need a license. As of late the F.C.C. has not been messing with anyone on the lower or upper bands. BUT I AM NOT TELLING YOU TO DO SO. that is your choice to transmit on them.
C) as for an antenna I use the wilson 1000 magnet mount. The antenna will handle 1000 watts of power BUT on a magnet mount no more then 500 watts. BTW this kinda output power is not legal :( And you should find someone to check and/or set your SWR's on your antenna with any good swr metter. Any luck you will find someone with a Dosy metter.

    BTW HML stands for (H)igh (M)ed (L)ow

I see that it was over a year ago on the last responce. But this may come in handy as far as Getting a Licence for "Any Rig" that is a CB/ 10 Meter radio. Unless it is an "Approved Model for 10 Meters" you are "Bootlegging" , meaning that it is not type excepted by the FCC. That is why I stick to my HAM GEAR. With the proper HAM TICKET, you may still be operating a Rig that Uncle Charlie will be more than HAPPY to DESTROY for you! Plus the FCC Loves to give out Large Fines. They do have the right, under FCC Rules to walk right in your Home, climb in your Truck or anyplace else they catch you at! Sad but True!!! Ya'll All Have a Blessed Season, if anyon reads this long over due responce.. 73, To Ya'll and Yours from W4Land, (Georgia). Collin....

you may have cracked the pcb board and its shorting out the audio and thus making it squeal. Best to take it to a tech and let them tell you whats wrong .

How do I set my swr on my galaxy dx 33 hml CB radio with a astatic swr meter and a top loaded tunable fire stick antenna

Watch the meter as you adjust the antenna. Try to get an SWR of 1:1, or as close to it as you can get.

I have a Galaxy DX33 HML. I want get as much output power and receive as possible with being pushed to the limits. What mods would you do without over doing it?

Your radio will only do 11 watts out of the box. The antenna has alot to do with your range along with a few other factors. I normally suggest using a Wilson trucker 1000 antenna on tractor rigs. and a larson Antenna on regular cars and trucks. There is one other thing you can do to increase your power. Purchase an RFX75 on Ebay and have a local cb shop install it for you. this will increase your power to about 80 - 100 watts PEP.

I put this radio in my truck with a magnet mounted antenna, I was told by truckers that it sounds like I am transmitting between channels, something like 18 or 20, don't know what that means or how to fix...

the radio could be off freq. did you buy it new if you did exchange it if not somebody may of tinkered
with the channel pod. make sure your antenna is tuned as far as swr's the only thing you could do is take it to a radio tech and have him adjust it back on freq not alot of adjusting you can do to that radio but a tech should be able to adjust it back on for little cost.

Backlighting not working on a dx 33 hml

The Galaxy DX33HML does not have backlighting. If you mean you have Nitro knobs that don't work, you should take it back to whoever installed them. There is no way to tell how they were wired.

This is not a simple answer not knowing if it ever worked or not. I have a rfx75 installed on a DX 88 and it preforms flawlessly. If I were you I would find a reputable CB Shop and ask for their help.

North Star DX 330 HML has no receive

Radio dude, we'll try to help with the problem your having with your Northstar base. I assume you have checked all the controls to make sure they are functioning correctly? ok, based on what I'm reading for the problem, I'd say your looking at a bad solder joint on the main circuit board, or a close powerful station might have keyed up and blowed the front end out of your receive. There are 1 or 2 fet transistors in the RX chain and with the age of the radio, one of those going bad on it's own is a possibility. Sounds like it needs some hands on troubleshooting, are you electronically able to work on it?? Hope this helps in your search and let us know,, Mechanic
