First unplug the computer, Then:
IF by system you have a BIOS password in it, thenn just remove the batttery, find the BIOS shorting pins and short them out. Replace shorting strip back into original position and start computer w/o password. You may have to go into you BIOS setup screen and reset it the way you want it.

I put a password on my computer and haven't used it in a long time and can't remember the password. How do I reset the computer to take the password off? It is an Acer Aspire 5250-PSWE6

get the disk OS hiren boot disk.
and on it use the password tool with the windows gate to over shadow the windows the authentication process or use linux live cd to open the system and replace the process osk.exe with cmd.exe and vise versa, that will depend upon what OS you use, so communicate back with the right OS version.

I can't find a decent manual for your computer but there will be 2 pins on the motherboard that will say BIOS Clear. Short these 2 pins and turn the computer on. This is the only way to bypass the BIOS password. This operation will clear the BIOS and reset to factory defaults. After the BIOS is cleared, turn the computer off and take off the short.

If the system is older, you may be limited by the BIOS. Many old systems do not recognize a partition with Windows.
Have you run fdisk for the format and partition setup?
Did you check the BIOS at startup? Make sure it recognizes the drive in BIOS and sees the partition. Hit F2 on bootup.
If it sees the drive, use a boot disk and run fdisk. Check the parameters and then run the install again.

Reinstallation CD will not run

When trying to boot from a CD on a Dell system you should put the CD in the CD-ROM tray and reboot the computer. When the initial Dell splash screen appears, you should press F12 (not F2 for BIOS) for a boot menu. In that menu you want to choose the CD-ROM drive. If you have made changes in BIOS you may want to undo them and try this way instead.

IF YOU TALK ABOUT A NOTEBOOK AND THE BIOS PASSWORD, CONTINUE READING THIS, otherwise if you are talking about operative system pass or PC... please let me know what os are you using to tell you explain that.

It seems that someone else has tryed to use your computer... what you should do is the following. Firs of all, some notebooks have a little well hidden button to reset BIOS, you notebook manual should tell you so, if not you should disassemble your notebook, so you will need very much help... I can guide you but first I must know if I understood you.

If you have a PC and its the bios password you are talking about, just open the case, remove all cables and let the case alone, take the lithium battery out for 30 minutes and start the system again, the bios will be in zero point so no password will be asked... Mother also has a jumper that resets the bios if you change its possition for a couple of minutes... you can see that in the manual (that jumper is called CMOS jumper).

If your problem is Windows or any OS password there are some things you can do, but please let me know first to guide you well.
