Question about Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 60 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Now used as 33 GB; want to use as 60 GB

Initially this drive was used as a 60 GB but then after a computer crash since I had trouble reformatting the drive (this was about a year ago) I just accepted the 33 GB option (after many unsuccessful attempts to get the full 60GB capacity) and since then I have been using it at reduced capacity. I am forgetting the sequence of steps I had initially used to get it to work as a 60GB drive. I would like to reformat this drive again but I would appreciate if someone can provide me the specific steps as to how to go about doing this.

yes, there is for Master, Cable Select and Cap lim - if I put the jumper on Cap lim then I would be reducing the capacity - isn't it?

I want to use the full 60 GB capacity

It just shows up as drive E. the file path goes green moving slowly across and then my computer crashes. ocasionally it asks me to reformat the drive

Hello,
The information that you have posted only tells me that your external HDD is either broken or got corrupted. Most of the times when I experience this green moving slowly on the address bar, it usually ends up being broken.

the computer for some reason is not fully detecting the ext drive if its usb then try other usb connections. if it has sata hook up try using that there a much better connection but dont worry i think youl find that all your information is still on the ext drive thats why we should all use external drives for all our important photos music and files because when the pc blows or crashes then the other drive is not affected

p.s if the ext drive can with a driver disc try reinstalling it.

good luck

My computer doesen't recognize the hard drive

you need to partition the drive in the first instance before it will do anything, ( as they are not initially partitioned) you need to go into logical drive management to partition the drive. (right click on my computer, select Manage then when the mangement screen comes up select logical drive manager, you should then be able to see your unpartitioned drive which you should then be able to partition and format)
