The convertion from ntfs to fat32 will result in loss of all data in the drive (all data from desktop,my documents, installed programmes.......). You can do this using your windows disc . Just set the primary boot device to be cd-rom in the bios, boot with windows cd in drive, then the installation will guide you to the insallation of a fresh copy of windows (there you can select the required file system).it is recomended to continue with ntfs

How do i convert FAT 32 to NTFS without formatting / Loosing Files in my Hard Disk Drive?

1) Backup your data!
2) XP or later: Open CMD (DOS Window) "Convert" [Drive:] /fs:ntfs

To verify you have the command available, in Cmd window, type "convert /?" that should bring up the various parameters to use with the command. If convert is not available, it will return "unrecognized command".

Convert FAT or FAT32 File system into NTFS

You can increase the performance of your computer using NTFS (New Technology File System) hard drive volume with windows XP, because this advance file system provides some extra features, for example security, reliability, file encryption and Compression features.
But if you are still using old file systems like FAT or FAT32, you can covert it into NTFS with a simple command. The interesting thing is that you can convert your hard drive volumes file system without losing data on the drive. Follow the giving steps to convert FAT or FAT32 partition to NTFS:
  • First go to Start button then click on Run option.
  • Now type here “CMD” and press Ok to open command prompt.
  • At the command prompt type convert drive letter name: /fs:ntfs
  • For example if you want to convert drive E to NTFS then the command will be “convert e: /fs:ntfs”.
  • Now restart your computer and enjoy NTFS features, but keep in mind you cannot covert back it to FAT or FAT32 again.

You can convert FAT32 to NTFS, but you cannot reverse this process. If you want to set up the hard drive for FAT32 you need to delete the NTFS partition the create a new partition and then format in FAT32.

I formatted my 1TB usb drive into ntfs want it back to fat32

If this is your bootable drive that windows in installed on you will need to completely reinstall windows to convert it back to FAT 32. If this is a spare drive then you can right click the drive in My computer and go to format and then reformat it as Fat 32.

Drive errors running fat 32, is fat neede or can i convert to ntfs?

I'm pretty sure you can convert. You don't need the partitions, but they can be useful. For instance, I just save all of my documents on a partition (and I make the target the partition so it saves it there without me having to do it manually). Then when ever you format (it's good to format at least once every two years if not more) you don't have to back up your documents as long as you leave your partition alone.
