Question about Canon ES55 Camcorder

1 Answer

I have an ES55 Canon and it works fine with the AC adapter but will not switch over when unplugged. The battery is fine and so is the spare battery that I bought unnecessarily. There was a post on your Q&A with a similar problem. If the problem is internal, I would like to send it to you. Also, the *** of the AC adapter recently snapped off in the socket. I could imagine quite a few ways to get it out, but you could probably give me just as many reasons why that would be a bad idea. So should I send it in for service, or do you have any easy fix suggestions. Eric

There is a switch inside the charging port of the camera that has gone bad. you can find them at lots of repair sites on the internet. (it replaces the entire charging port.) just be sure you are good at soldiering! there are a lot of tiny pieces right around it.

I have a Cannon ES55 camcorder (about 10 years old), all of a sudden wouldn't charge. Bought new battery and new small lithium battery that is placed under the bigger battery, still won't charge. Any...

Check the voltage on the charger, now remove the battery off the cradle and check the voltage that appears on the terminals that touch the battery terminals. If there is sufficient voltage more than the battery voltage it should be good. Now make sure that your battery voltage is good and the battery though NEW has not been inthe shelf for long. If so it would have developed back EMF and will not charge. So check this out. If ther is no voltage a the cam terminals from the adapter then you will need to open and check for the charging circuit, a possible failure of the regulators. Hope you try this out. Good day

Canon ZR200 mini DV Digital camcorder power is not coming.

First thing, clean your battery contacts, both on the battery, and on the camcorder. Make sure the battery is charged fully (measure it if you have a voltmeter). Make sure your power adapter is putting out voltage (again, measure it if you can) Try a spare battery, if you have one, to make sure the first one isn't just dead. Other than those things, you could have a faulty or broken power switch on the unit. That's about all I can think of offhand.

My jvc camcorder GZ-MG37U will not charge

Camcorder has charging circuit but it could go defective. The repair would be costly so in this situation, you can purchase stand-along battery charger for around $20 and charge the batteries independently. Make sure all the contacts are cleaned and camcorder is working with direct ac adapter. Good luck -James. for furnter assistance by email, go to www.camerarepairjapan.com

Canon ES55 camcorder

The camcorder has a port called "Audio Video Out". You need an adapter cable (Canon's cable is the C-250) to connect from this port to a television or VCR. Use the white RCA plug on the cable with the "Audio In" jack and the yellow RCA plug with the "Video In" jack on the television or VCR.
Canon's cable is available from their online store at

This symbol means that the backup battery needs to be replaced. The backup battery is located under a panel on the left side of the camcorder, and the main battery pack has to be removed to see this panel. The battery is a CR2025 (Duracell DL2025).

This happens alot at work its either the charging part is broke or its the mainboard inspect the port for damage if its ok then inspect the ac adapter for damage as well, if you have time you could go to best buy and ask to use a charger from a floor model if it doesnt work then it needs to go in for repair sorry.

Try the most obvious solutions first; making sure the AC adapter for the camera is plugged into the camcorder-- and the plug orientation is correct if applicable, and it is in turn plugged into the wall.
Is the wall outlet working? Try another location in your home to be sure. Is the AC adapter working? If you have a battery, attach it to the camera and see if it charges. Next, look for obvious outward physical damage to the camcorder that could cause it to stop working.
The thin battery you speak of if generally just for backing up the time and date, and is not needed for operation.
The power switch on Canon models is usually a slider that goes from Manual to Auto to VCR mode. If it is dirty or wearing out, move it a small amount to one side or the other, while watching the LED power indicator. If you see it flash, or light dimly, the switch is bad.
Read the manual-- the unit may have a reset function you can access, or require a tape in it to power up. Hope these help.

Power Adapter

The operating voltage of the AC Adapter Kit/Compact Power Adapter/Battery Charger is 100V - 240V and conforms with international standards. Voltage may be unstable in some countries/regions. Please take care when using the device. The shape of the plug varies depending on the country/region. Make sure the conversion plug adapter is the right shape for your location.
