I bought an ipod (nano) a few years ago and it worked perfectly on my comp. Lost it after a few months and I haven't boughten another one until yesterday.
To keep it short, when I first turn on my computer before the login screen comes up, the ipod shows that its connected. As soon as the login screen comes up, though, my computer stops recognizing the ipod. I tried reinstalling itunes, but as soon as the installation is about to complete, the progress bar stops until I eventually cancel it.
So to replace itunes I downloaded songbird, which seems like it would work fine if the computer would recognize my ipod.
I've tried everything.. it seems like the only option left would to just do a system recovery :| help please

well, that's creepy. I bought a new computer some months ago and I did the exact thing as you with my ipod.
when I can't sync songs on to my ipod, it may be the song is not supported on you ipod.
hope this helps and good luck :)
I struggled with this issue for a while and finally found a post that helped me. Hold menu and the center buttons until the iPod turns off. Then, immediately hold the left and center buttons to pull up the iPod diagnostic menu. Scroll down to the option "Reset" and select it. My iPod was finally recognized by iTunes. Good luck :)
