checked connections -- do not know how to tell if it is faulty

  • stevependerg Feb 28, 2009

could it be the motor?? how would you know?

  • stevependerg Feb 28, 2009

you have done nothing for me.  this vacum was given to me (used). I just discovered that the vacum has to be in the work mode before the brush will work.  Will not waste 10$ again with people who do not have experience!!!

Hi

The brush will not rotate when the unit is locked in the upright position, because an internal micro-switch turns the brush motor off.For the brush to rotate and the headlight to light, the brush switch must be on and the handle must be reclined.

- Make sure both power switches are turned on.
- Make sure the canister is seated properly on the base of the unit.
- Remove the access plate and check the brush and belt for damage. If the brush will not turn by hand, or the belt is broken, replace damaged parts. Clean off any debris on the brush roller.
- If the brush still will not turn, please take your machine to a local BISSELL Authorized Service Center for inspection.

Please revert for any clairfications.

Thanks
Rylee

The front brush motor will not engage until the power is turned on and the handle is in the down position. In the upright position the brush motor wont engage. Typical faults will be the belt is broken and needs replacing or the fornt brush motor needs replacing.

The brush is melted to the end cap it is difficult to fix.
You need to replace new brush.

Motor cant be the problem . It is only the brush which needs replacement .

To test the motor you can energize it directly, this kind of test may be dangerous if not done by an experienced technician.

The belt for the maain vaccume broke off and now with the new belt the roller will not work.

It sounds like your roller brush itself might be bad. Try holding the roller brush holding just the end caps with your finger tips, and spinning the roller. Does the roller spin freely? If no, this indicates that your roller brush's bearings have melted together. This is a common problem for Bissell vacuums, as they use cheaper plastic bearing caps. The roller brush is not covered under the warranty either.

When this part goes bad, this causes the belt to break almost immediately. If you tried replacing the belt, and it broke immediately, your roller brush has gone bad.

Brush wont go round but the belt is ok

The belt may look okay but it can still be stretched. If it is stretched it won't turn the brush against the resistance of the carpet. Here is a link to the belts you need and to the manual which has instructions:

The brush is not working anymore

Your drive belt is probably broken. They usually need to be changed every 6 to 12 months. If you haven't replaced the belt recently I would try that. You can get the belts you need through this link and also view the manual which has step by step instructions on how to change the belt. hope this helps!

Main Brush Failure

first check if the brush motor is turning before you spend money on a new brush roller and belt. remove the belt by unscrewing the screws holding the brush cover ( the part touching the floor ) and slip the belt of the rotor. turn the vacuum on, and the brush on while the vacuum is in a reclined position. if the motor is not moving, you need a new motor.

If you have a rubber smell, then the belt is slipping, does the brush roll turn freely while holding the ends? If not then replace it, part #2036619, if it is ok, then the belt has strectched and is slipping under load, part # 2106679, Style 8.
