Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Some easy checks:

  • if there is a speaker icon on the bottom right side, then the drivers are good and the device is installed correctly;
  • connect a pair of headphones, a headset or an external speaker to the green jack and try again;
  • if there is no sound then it is audio chip problem on the motherboard;
  • if there is, then it would be a problem with the 2 internal speakers;
  • if you have to fiddle with the plug to hear the sound, then it would be the speaker jack.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Have you gone through the troubleshooting tips on the "Sounds and Audio devices" on the control panel. I have had this happen before too and somehow it fixed itself when I played a DVD, and it had the same symptoms so give that a try. I bet you checked the mute and everything simple. I would try a system restore next after going through the above. If that doesn't work, then try uninstalling the sound drivers and reinstalling them and let me know what fixes your problem or if nothing did

Try with other cds initially . May be that particular cd is defective .

Also play some music which are default in the notebook to check the working of the sound driver .

If you still dont get any sound .Uninstall the current sound driver and reinstall with latest update.

Hope this helps .

Check that the sound is not muted from audio properties on control panel.

If it is not that you may need to reinstall the driver.

    Go first to control panel, and open audio properties, in there check that the audio is not muted.

    If that is not the problem reinstall the audio drivers, you can download audio drivers from toshiba website here:

    Toshiba - Download drivers

    To download and install drivers, click on link above.
    Select your model and locate the audio driver download on toshiba website.
    After download has finished, click on downloaded file to start the installation.

When trying to listen to the audio portion of a message or DVD or CD there is no sound. The computer indicates that the sound is working but we don't hear anything.

Go to Start --> Control Panel --> Sounds and Audio Devices. In the first tab verify that the volume is not in its lower level and also verify that the option "Mute" is clear, then clic OK.
Good Luck!!!

Some media player plugins have their own volume control, separate from the one in the task bar.

Check the volume settings there.
