Question about Microwave Ovens
I have a GE microwave JVM2070SH01 that run for 3 sec. and then switches off and the clock needs to be reset. The microwave runs perfectly with the cover off. Is the magnatron bad and creating static internally around the contol panel? I made sure that it and it's covers are tight. Are there other parts that could be creating this static?
It is a loose or bad magnetron emitting electrical interference that disrupts the control unit.
When you move the circuit board away from the magnetron or take the cover off, the interference is weakened, and the control unit works fine.
If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.
If it's within the mag warranty, G.E. should send you the magnetron to do it yourself. Call them at 888-239-6832 with your model, serial, and manufacturing date.
If nothing else, you can save about $50-75 if you remove it from the wall and take it to a GE-authorized servicer.

If the microwave runs for a few seconds and then shuts off, a door switch might have failed intermittently. Check each of the door switches for any signs of overheating, arcing, or burning. Also check each of them for continuity. Replace any of the switches that is visibly damaged or that only has continuity intermittently
the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the touchpad and
control panel might be defective. There are several other components
that can cause this problem, be sure to check any other components
before replacing this board.
the microwave runs for a few seconds and stops the touchpad might be
at fault. This is not common. Generally speaking, if the microwave
display is working and some of the buttons respond correctly but
some don't, the problem is with the touchpad.
