Unfortunately, the 531 does not find roots of a function. However, the 506 calculator has something called equation mode, where you can
find roots of equations.

If you have any more questions there is a dedicated website http://www.mathsatsharp.co.za/ where you can leave questions about the SHARP calculators on the student page and they will be answered within a week maximum.

SOURCE: sharp advanced EL-531x how to input number after number for stats

First you have to set the calculator in STAT mode, presumably Standard Deviation or SD. The display should show a STAT annoucer to the top. To enter values use the key M+ (or the key next to which is marked DATA. The screen displays the number of data values entered so far.
To get the statistics you must use the keys marked with x bar, n, Sigma x, etc.

EL 531x - can't find a manual online, and I can't work out how to put an answer in the memory and then re-use it. Please help! Thank you!

If you insist on finding the exact model number in the title of the manual it is possible your quest will be fruitless. Just take any manual for an EL-531 and you will get lucky. Besides, most calculators of the same manufacturer perform operations the same way.
Anyway, here is a screen grab to solve your problem.

How do I input into the calculator sin squared 45. The answer is 0.75 but how do I go about it on the calculator?

SOHCAHTOA.

Sine is the Opposite divided by the Hypotenuse.
Let's use a triangle with both sides equal to 1 and the hypotenuse will be a^2 + b^2 = c^2, or 1^2 + 1^2 = c^2, or c^2 = 2, so c = square root (2).

So in this triangle, the sin 45 degrees is 1/square root 2 or 0.7071.

Sin square 45 is really sin 45 squared. So we get our answer 0.7071 and square it, and we get 0.5.

Good luck.

I have a sharp EL-531X calculator and I don't know how to solve x^2-5x-8=0

Use the Alpha keyboard to enter the left side of your equation. While equation is still on command line, activate the SOLVE application (Math). Enter a first guess, the increment and press =.
Press = to repeat the solution for the next root.
To help you practice, one root is negative and near -2, the second is positive and about 5.5.

How do I solve quadratics on my 531x Sharp calculator?

There is some confusion here.
In stat mode [Quad] the calculator tries to fit a quadratic function to your (already entered) data. It gives you the coefficients a, b, and c of the 2nd degree polynomial that best describes the data.
To solve an equation you need to use the solver not statistics.

EL 531X Sharp - Help with calculations

You need a SHARP with Write-View display capabilities. The EL-531X is unable to show that. The Write-View calculators from Shard have a W, example EL-W516 followed by Write-View. Not to be confused with the W in EL-520W
