New hard drive on ps3

I have just installed a new hard drive on my ps3 but it just says "the system software can not be run correctly. Press the PS button to try to restart the system.

If the system can not be restarted, The system partition of the hard **** must be reformatedand you must reinstall the system software.

Insert storage media that contains update dater of version 2.60 or later, and then push the start and select buttons at the same time.

(I have already formated the new hard drive to fat 32 and backed up my existing files. I have also downloaded the latest update avalible for the PS3 on to my newly formated hard drive.)

Please advise

You're almost there Robert.

What the PS3 is asking for is this:

PS3 Firmware 2.60

You've got to download it and then place it into two folders like this on an external hard drive or thumbdrive or cd if that's all you got.

If you look at the instructions you'll see what I'm talking about. Make sure the folder names are all capitalised or else it won't work.

Once you have this in place press START and SELECT on the controllers and it will allow you to format the hard drive.

Let me know if you get stuck or have any more questions.

Best of luck!

There is only ONE way to do it. So let's try to figure out what we're missing.

Have you got the PS3 controller hooked up via the usb cable?

Have you already downloaded and placed the PS3UPDATE.PUP file in the folders like I said, PS3->UPDATE----(firmware) ?

You've got to make sure the thumbdrive / external drive is plugged in with the correct files in place.

Yes, you've got to have the NEW hard drive in the PS3 AND the USB Drive with the firmware update file in the folders like this:

The folders have to be named in CAPS

the ps3 firmware file goes into the UPDATE folder.

Hard Drive

If your PS3 lags or freezes when loading content from the hard drive, the drive either lacks free space or is faulty. To create more space, try removing items from your hard drive or getting a new hard drive with a higher storage capacity. A faulty hard drive must be replaced.

I try to download the new version of the system software 3.56 but i only get to 72% of it and it tells me error occured and gives me the number 8002f997

Try accessing the recovery menu 'safe mode'.

Press and hold the power button until the systems shuts off. (wait 2 seconds)

Press and hold the power button again until you here 3 beeps. Let go.

It should ask you to connect your controller via usb and press the PS button in

the middle of your controller. There will be a menu with 6 options. You need 6.

You will need to have the latest firmware on a usb stick. Download the firmware from the playstation official website onto a usb stick. Once prompted by your system you will need to insert the usb stick into the PS3. Good luck..

If this doesn't work:

Your HARD DRIVE (aka: Hard Disk), located on the left side of the unit, has crashed. You will need to replace the HD.

When you replace your hard drive, you will need to have the latest firmware on a

usb stick. Download the firmware from the playstation official website onto a usb

stick. Once prompted by your system you will need to insert the usb stick into the

PS3. Good luck..

You will need 2.5" Sata Hard Drive.

My ps3 froze during the installation of firmware 3.01 and i can not do anything with it says to press ps button but nothing happens

Turn off the PS3 and then turn it on. Try to restore the PS3 to factory defaults. If that doesn't work then try to save any data you need off of the hard drive and format the hard drive. This will erase any bad downloads and firmware updates that the system was trying to do.

Wont start messages comes up saying correct hard disk not found

your hard drive may be dying. or the file system may be corrupted.

before you get a new hard drive there are some tricks to try.

#1 remove the HDD and boot it up without it in, then turn off and put the HDD back in and boot again.

#2 rebuild the file system in the recovery menu

#3 rebuild the database in the recovery menu

To get to the recovery menu you need to press and hold the power button when the ps3 is in standby mode untill you hear a double beep then release. sometimes the ps3 will go back to standby mode before it does the double beep if it does just release the button and press and hold again real fast and wait for double beep.

here is what mine does

ps3 standby(red light) press hold power...........beep...............beep.........standby again, release hold............beep..................double beep ..release power button.

from the recovery consol you can rebuild the file system and database sometimes when they are corrupted it has same symptoms as a dying HDD.

P.S. rebuilding the file system and database will not lose any of your ps3 data, other options will though like the restore ps3 and format HDD.
if the above tricks dont work try updating the firmware, if your at the current firmware you can re-install it from the recovery menu as well using a usb memory stick or a cd with the firmware on it.

if all that doesnt help it looks like its time to get a new HDD, but at least you can upgrade it to a bigger ps3 now. any sata laptop HDD should work. i think a 160gb HDD is only $50ish.

My ps3 tells me the hard disk is corrupted

Sounds like you might need a new hard drive. You could try to disconnect it and reconnecting it, but usually it does not fix the problem. just remember you need a 2.5 sata hard drive (might be a good thing, if you ever wanted more hard drive space).

Platstation 3 hard disk error

It should have formatted with your ps3, even if you formatted the HDD on your laptop it would have asked you the same thing, since the PS3 asks you that so it can install some folders for the pictures, games music etc.

your problem could be caused by faulty HDD installation, a faulty HDD or a broken ps3 that cant read HDDs anymore.

I would make sure the HDD is installed correctly, if that doesnt work I suggest buying a new HDD. If both of those dont work then you have a Ps3 that has a trouble reading HDDs
