Make sure its plugged all the way into the slot. Then reinstall the driver for it. Go to Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Expand it and you should see your sound card listed there.

windows will automatically reinstall whatever it detects during boot. So go ahead and delete whats in there then reboot. Otherwise if you tell me the computer make/model I can tell you what should be in there.

My Altec Lansing AVS 300 external computer speakers quit working on my laptop. They work fine on another laptop. Please suggest a solution to get these speakers to work on my computer.

Check if the sound card is correctly setup with drivers.

Do this by going to Control Panel, Device Manager and check on sound cards.

Can you hear sounds from regular laptop speakers??

If not, the problem is in the sound card, which is already integrated on the motherboard.

This makes it harder to fix, unless your laptop is under warranty.

If it is software related to the OS or conflict with other devices, you are more likely to fix it.

God Bless You!

Make sure the speakers are hooked up properly and also that the sound card drivers are installed, you can verify this by going into the device manager. The main speaker wire has to be hooked up to the output of the computer sound card.

If the sound card drivers are installed and the speakers are hooked up properly and your still not getting sound, try the speakers on another computer that you know has sound. If the speakers work then its a sound card driver issue on the original computer. If the speakers don't work on another computer then you know the speakers are bad.

Hi, They suddenly stopped working, think I

Try another speaker set.
If this does not fix it, then consider the sound card if it is removeable, get a new one. If it is internal, turn off the sound and install a sound card.

Replace your speakers if they are external by plugging in some headphones or something. If this does not resolve the issue look to the sound card in the computer.

Download and reinstall all sound card drivers for your computer/sound card. If this does not fix the issue, look to replacing the sound card.

SPeaker and Headphone

If both speakers AND headphones aren't working and nothing is muted, it sounds (no pun intended) like your sound card has gone south. Have you checked in Device Manager to see if it's still listed? Right click My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager. Check under Sound, Video and Game Controllers to see if it's there. If so, right click and choose Update Drivers just in case it somehow got wiped out. That would be the easy fix and I hope it's not your card!

Sample testing is usually a firmware built into the monitor amplifier ie the monitor is testing itself. you problem possibly lies with the computer sound system. Tell me more about this. Is it an 'On-board' sound card or separate PCI card. You can determine this by looking at the back of the computer- if all the connectors - sound- PS2 and USB are in the same panel - then it is an on-board system. If the sound is separate in one of the card position then it is a PCI card. The possibility is the sound system needs setting up- check your computer paperwork/manual and utilities disk for Audio drivers. Come back with some answers

Won't work

Um, that sounds like a sound card drivers problem more than the speakers theirselves. Can you try connecting any other source of audio to the speakers, like a Mp3 player, a walkman, a diskman ? Those portable players have the same audio output connections than a PC's standard sound card, a 1/8 mini stereo plug. If it works fine this way, it's a sound card drivers issue. Now if it's so, what i'd suggest you to do, is to check which sound card you got, and to reinstall or update the drivers for the device. I can help you with that part too, keep me posted on the status. Thanks, cheebster :)
