Excel Password Recovery 5.0 is a free trial tool to help you recover lost or forgetten Excel workbook passwords. Although there is no guarantee that the Excel password will be recovered it is a much quicker method than the "brute force" methods that most paid password recovery tools use.

How do I unlock an excel spreadsheet which has password protection (lost). I am using Mac Excel not Windows

A) Open document > Select edit menu > choose select all > then choose copy from edit menu.
Open new document > edit menu> paste.
Select tools menu> choose options> window opens with options. Select form different tabs the edit tab> make sure that al desired boxes are selected.
Select save tab>choose and mark box>ask about properties
accept or Apply options and close.
Save new document different name. When saving it should ask if you want to save properties> choose not save. Maybe it asks if you want to modify properties> choose yes> select box archive amongst read only, hidden or archive.
If this does not work.
B)There are many 3rd party utilities which claim to reset forgotten word password:
The program that I recommend is the Excel Password Recovery 5.0 It recovers/removes the "Password to Open" and "Password to Edit" for you to view and edit the document freely.

I lost my password for the ms excel file that i created 2 months back. how should i open it now.

Hello,

While we do not give information for unlocking software due to copyright infringement, this is an altogether different matter. You have locked a document you previously created and forgot the password. There are fortunately quite a few programs to effectively retrieve your password for you, though I will provide you a link to one that I have used before, so you know it will work and is virus-free. You need to have Microsoft .net framework installed on your computer, though the .net (dot net) framework free download is software from Microsoft and is also quite safe. It is already installed on many computers for a variety of reasons. You can find the password retreiver here: http://www.freewordexcelpassword.com/downloads/FreeWordExcelpasswordrecoverywizard.zip

and it a compressed (zip) file. If you have any other questions, please dont hesitate to contact us again.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Whenever I open a new spreadsheet now it automatically opens up a spreadsheet calles PERSONAL. Why is that and how can I get rid of it... I think it started after a did a macro but I am not sure. Thanks,...

You're right - it was caused by recording a macro. When you record a macro you are given the option to store the new macro in "This Workbook", a "New Workbook" (the default), or in a "Personal Macro Workbook". It looks like you selected "Personal Macro Workbook".
The recorded macro is stored in a special workbook called "Personal.xls". This workbook is loaded every time Excel is loaded. If you don't want this workbook loaded, then just delete it or rename it.
The file is buried deep in Microsoft's application data area. On my Vista computer it's in C:\Users\frogfund\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART On my Windows XP computer it's in C:\Documents and Settings\frogfund\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART. Depending on your computer your Personal.xls might be in a slightly different location. You might need to do a search using Windows Explorer.
If you are still having troubles finding personal.xls 1. Open Excel, 2. Open the Visual Basic editor (hit Alt-F11 or click Tools-Macro-Visual Basic Editor) 3. Click Tools-References to bring up the references dialog 4. Click on VBAProject in the list. The file location will be displayed near the bottom of the dialog box. Sometimes this might be cut off at the end, but it should give you a good idea where the file is located. 5. Click Cancel to close the dialog.

Excel Password Recovery 2009

This Excel add-in (password.xla) works fine in Excel 5.0 and above (including Excel 2000, XP and 2003).
This program will remove passwords of any length, also passwords containing special characters.

But sometimes it is almost impossible to recover. So be smarter, don't forget your password!

Forgot password to open Excel sheet

If you mean that you can open the Workbook and read the Worksheet - then all you have to do is select all and paste it to another Worksheet. This will allow for changes of formulas etc.

If you mean the whole Workbook - then I dunno.

In future, either use the same password for everything (easy to remember) or Protect the work with nothing entered into the password field (leave this blank). This last will protect the work from people who try to guess your password, but will be easy for you to remember - eg every password is left blank.

If you must use unique passwords, then keep a record of them somewhere other than on your computer.

Sorry I can't help with the "Workbook" solution - but somebody else out ther may be able to do so.
