Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a 50" Scenium HDTV. A DVD player and a Sony Playstation have been plugged into the TV and have been working fine for 2 years. All of a sudden, they now play for 5 seconds and stop. What has happened? We have unplugged both devices and plugged them back in, but this does not make a difference. I really need these to work. Can't watch DVDs and my son can't use his playstation.

The first thing to check is the ventilation in the back of the set.

If this is a combo unit (TV with DVD built in) you need the original remote---Universals almost always are missing key features the original remote had as most companies have someone else make the unit and put their name on it.

Hello. I do hope that you have gotten this resolved. But if not, here are some simple steps.

If you are at TV1, where the receiver box is located, the tv needs to be on channel 3 or 4. Depending on the cable that is running between the receiver and the tv, the tv may need to be on an input, such as video 1 or 2. If you are at the TV2 location, where there is no receiver, then the tv needs to be on channel 60 or 73.

If you are using an HDMI cable- the TV needs to be on an HDMI input
If you are using component cables-the TV needs to be on a component input usually
If you are using RCA cables-the TV usually needs to be on a VIDEO like Video 1 or2
If you are using coax cable-the TV needs to be just on channel 3 or 4.

What is your TV input connection? Are you using Antenna? Cable? Dish?

The Unusable Signal sounds like the TV is not getting a signal. Does your TV have a built in HD Tuner?

If you are using Antenna you might want to try setting up the connections and it should search for quality channels that you get good signal strength. If you are on channel 2 and there is no over the air channel 2 it may say "unusable signal".

Toshiba HDTV + SONY PLAYSTATION 3 + SONY Home Theatre DAVHDX265

I have looked up the infomation on your TV I noticed that your TV has two HDMI input plugs. Since your SONY BRAVIA is hooked up to one port, you need to buy another HDMI cable for your PS3. On your tv remote you should have an option to switch from video 1 to video 2 so then you can switch from the SONY BRAVIA to the PS3 the problem is you will only hear your PS3 Sound from you TV. If you want to hear your PS3 sound from your SONY BRAVIA you need to buy an optical cable (also called TOSLINK) to connect from your PS3 to the SONY BRAVIA.

Hope that helps!

Connecting a wii to a RCA Scenium

Sorry but I have to ask, are you sure the cables were plugged in correctly on the bigger set? Try using your tv's input button to scroll through the different inputs until you come to the one where the Wii is plugged in. You can check which one by looking where you plug the cables in. i.e. line 1, line 2, component 1, etc. Hope this helps.

If your handy, then try to disassemble the DVD .player from the unit and manualy clean the lens assy, but please be aware of the HI Voltage dangers inside of a tV set. if your not then Please call a pro top assist you with this repair. If the units not worth fixing then simply buy and inexpensive DVD player/recorder and hook it up via the external inputs. Good Luck
