Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

My HP Scanjet 4070 Photosmart will not scan films using the TMA. It makes copies and scans pictures and documents OK. The TMA bulb is working. When attempting to scan Film or slides I get an error message saying that the scanner is not connected properly or is incorrectly installed. Surely this can't be the case as everything else works OK

    I Don't know, I haven't tried it yet.

  • iandonald Mar 01, 2009

I've tried everything you suggest but to no avail.

The scanner continues to work perfectly scanning text, or pictures, and copying, but I still get the error message when I attempt to scan slides or negatives. This message indicates that the scanner is not properly connected, improperly installed ,or there is a conflict somewhere.

Ensure that you fit the mask correctly.

Eventually try reinstalling the scanner software.

If you use the Transparent materials adapter, try doing the followinf, if the scanner is set on economy mode the lamp may not start:

1 From the HP Director, click Settings.
2 Select Scan Settings & Preferences.
    3 Select Scan Preferences.
4 Click the Quality vs Speed tab.

    This will remove economy mode.

HP Scanjet 5590 Lamp Error "Bad or fading lamp (error -4430)" Fixable? Can I do it? Best source to purchase?

    From HP forums:

The first thing I would do is to make sure your TMA is properly attached. Next, make sure your software is up to date and that any applicable patches have been applied.

Next, what OS are you using? What application are you trying to use to scan with? Can you scan from any other application such as word or another graphics program?

    Can't scan PLEASE HELP!

SOLUTION: Download the latest version (v 7.7.2) of the HP software from the HP website at www.hp.com. Uninstall the previous software and then reinstall the downloaded software. WORKAROUND: Follow the steps below:
    1. Load the slides or negatives in the TMA and place it on the scanner glass.
    2. Open Image Zone and click on Scan Picture to scan everything.
    3. After the scan is completed, change the settings from glass to scan slide/negative from TMA. The unit will scan again and show the four slides or negatives in the preview.
    4. Click on the first picture in the scan preview and make the following changes:
      • change the dust and scratch removal/sharpness to none
      • change the resolution to 72 dpi
    5. Click on the second picture in the scan preview and make the same changes described above.
    6. Click on the third picture and then the fourth picture and make the same changes.
    7. Click Accept . The correctly scanned slide or negative images will be saved in the Gallery.

I am looking for instructions on this product.

Step 1: Open the scanner lid and remove the Transparent Materials Adapter (TMA).
Step 2: Place your slides or negatives into the appropriate template. Follow the orientation indicated by the icons on the template.
Step 3: Tip: If you are scanning fewer than the maximum number of negatives with the TMA, cover the empty spaces with the provided light shields to avoid letting any extra light in
Step 4: Place the template on the scanner glass, aligning the arrow on the template with the indicated mark on the scanner bed.
Step 5: Close the scanner lid and press the Scan Film button (or select the Scan Film option if you're using the HP Solution Center application on your PC).
Step 6: In the Scanning from dialog box, click Change Settings.
Step 7: Under Scan Shortcut Settings, select your Scan Type (either Negatives (TMA) or Slides or Positives (TMA)).
Step 8: Under Scan To select Save to file. Then click Scan.
Step 9: Under the Save Location dialog box, click Browse and enter the destination folder of your choice. Click OK and follow any on-screen instructions to finish scanning. The scan will be sent to the destination folder you selected. s.gif s.gif
