Question about Singer 7462 Mechanical Sewing Machine

Open Question

Singer 3270C model

I was sewing on it and sometimes something would hit like the needle hitting something. Well, I thought maybe the feed dog needed adjusting. Then yesterday I was sewing and the feed dog lever got jammed. I took the casing off to see what was wrong. A piece fell out. It is metal and crooked. Looked like it fit over a spindle and held the feeddog in place. But is there an easy way of putting this in the machine. If i had a picture of the parts in there maybe i canb fix it.
Sincerely, Gaynell Kirk

SOURCE: singer model 7442 needle hits plastic piece under

Perhaps you have bent the needle. Or perhaps you have shifted the bobbin somewhat while removing jammed fabric.

SOURCE: singer 3270c stops sewing in

How is your power cord? Has it been stored wound tightly? Take it in for service because it may overheat and destroy the machine. I hope that it is under warranty or that it won't cost you anything to diagnose it, but something is very wrong.

SOURCE: I need to know what

I don't know the part number, but I do know where you can buy one. Go to The price is 12.95. The part number on the page may well be the retailer's own part number and not that of Singer's, though.

My machine stopped feeding the materal thru and got bunched up..then the needle seemed to be hitting on something when i was going sew so i had to quit sewing..i am a new owner so i need help

Please provide the make & model of your machine.

Check that the feed dogs have not been dropped, as for darning. Also, make sure the stitch length is set to at least #2 which would insure there is enough feed dog movement to pull the fabric.

If it's an older mechanical machine, it could be seizing due to old dry oil. If this is the case, it should be addressed before the machine suffers damage. If the needle has been hitting, the needle MUST be replaced because a bent, damaged needle can cause further damage, ie sewing machine timing could be knocked off and require service. Sewing machine timing is usually knocked off when a needle strikes where it should not.

Feed dogs are hitting the needle plate

Needle is bent replace with new needle. You may need to adjust feed speed so that needle doesn't bend. Good luck

Singer 9116 needle hitting shuttle ****.

Is needle bent? Are the feed dogs aligned? Shuttle clicked in? Is the needle set for zig zag? Could be one of those things.
Best wishes

Singer CG500 Needle hits the needle plate. Needle was replaced. Verified needle in correctly. Tried hand wheel - still hits. Machine has yet to be used!!

Unless you need all the bells and whistles to sew get you a pre-1930 treadle or handcrank. I have 2 electric Singers, 1947 model 66 and 1948 201-2 both with attachments. Also I have 1903 Singer handcrank made in Scotland. The plastic new one just don't have the ability to hang in there .... All my pre 1930 Singers sew... I love them!

Feed dogs won't move

No info on the sewing machine make or model. It sounds like something is binding up, is bent, or is tangled in the machine. Look around the front and back of the sewing area for a switch to lower the feed dogs.

Good luck

Can I turn the feed dogs off on this machine???

I have a Singer Stylist 416 and instead of turning the feed dogs off as I would on my Toyota 9090 I have to change the needle plate. It's a thicker type needle plate that doesn't let the feed dogs through, if you see what I mean. Maybe your machine is the same? Hope this helps!

White sewing machine, model 1777, the needle gets bent, bobbin makes a mess when sewing, won't fed fabric

Oh yuck! this sounds terrible. Sounds like maybe you have two problems going on and feeding into each other. The first problem may be that the machine needs a good cleaning Here's what I'd do:

1. Take apart the bobbin assembly and clean it out completely.
2. Take off the feed dogs if you can (first, you'll need to take off the throat plate.) Clean the feed dogs as thoroughly as possible.
3. Brush out any/all lint, threads, dust, etc.
4. Oil the machine.
5. Make sure you're using the right size needle for the fabric
6. Make sure you're using the right presser foot

The other problem may be that the needle is hitting the throat plate or something else it shouldn't. Using a new needle, slowly move it down to see where it's hitting or rubbing. Check that the needle is inserted as far in as it will go and that it's being held securely.

When you start sewing, hold the upper thread and the bobbin thread together behind the needle so there's no slack. This usually prevents 'bird nests'.

Hope this helps!

My needle keeps hitting the plastic bobbin holder - how can I fix this? Is the bobbin holder inserted wrong?

change the needle and see if it is still hitting because once they hit the case or the feed dog they very often get bent always change needles with different fabrics and types of thread
