Question about Yamaha RX-V661 Receiver

1 Answer

Shuts off within seconds of turning on.

We were watching TV. Loud crack and picture gone, no sound and receiver (RX-V661) went off. It was working perfectly. I have went so far as to disconnect from system and try to just plug it into a wall socket, it comes on displays volume goes to straight then it goes off. No matter what I push once it does come on and it will still go off. I have looked on the Yamaha FAQ, I have looked in the troubleshooting in the manual. Nothing. Is anyone out there had this problem. This unit is only 14 months old. Appreciate any input!!!!!

Sounds like the "crack!" was a capacitor that got fat and blew up.

Connect to your HDMI out from the receiver to your television.

No auto setup display on TV

For the setup functions you have to use either the monitor out (a yellow jack on the top-right corner of the back) or you have to use component video out. HDMI will NOT work for setting up the system. This is one complaint to Yamaha from all of us.

Static noise from Front Left Speaker

It would probably be with the speaker. That is easily checked by simply unhooking the speaker and running the test again.

Setting up Cable with HDMI

Yes, the firmware on your hdtv box has an old firmware, I switched my old hdtv box with a newer one box and the problem was solved. It seems that it can't work if your hooking up with DVI to HDMI cable to your receiver to tv. Your hd box must have an HDMI out otherwise it causes problems. I also have rx-v661 and i finally hooked up everything HDMI to the receiver and then to the tv and it was having the problem you speak of. After I switched out the hd box for a newer one everthing worked fine.

No display info on receiver

Try plugging a video monitor AKA your TV into that monitor output connector on the rear of the yamaha.
Select video in on the TV and see if anything shows up from the yamaha

Sounds though like the receiver has serious issues. If you can get your moeny back , do so
