My problem is exactly as you have listed. I have bought one of these hand sweepers and in the last 10 days and it has a broken belt on it. I've looked all over the instruction manual and there is NOTHING in that manual that indicates there is even a belt as a part to purchase, let alone how to change it. I made the call to the company and all they could do is read some manuscript to me in 20 sec as to how to disasemble the entire sweeper just to change the belt. What a rediculous design.

I have the same problem. I can put a belt back in. i only need a source for the belts. where do i get the belts?

Well it's actually not so bad once you realize where they hid the screws. Gently pull outwards on either side of the housing that surrounds the brush and vacuum. There are no screws for this piece it simply snaps off and on. Once this piece is removed you'll see two phillips type screws on the side where the removable hose attaches. Remove the two screws and pull off the molded section they keep in place. The brush will now come off revealing the rotor that the belts slips over. The belt is placed over the rotor and the brush cylinder in a figure eight. Reassemble and your ready to go. Now if Shark will only help customers locate a replacement belt you may find this info useful.....

Awesome help and description, kj1209! Exactly as you describe!
    thanks!

  • samuline Aug 12, 2011

kj1209 did a very good job of describing the way to fix the belt! I would ad that it is important to line up the ends of the rotary brush which can be difficult on the second end once you get the belt on. I suggest you put a string or wire around the rotary brush to hold onto and hold the brush in the correct position while you line up the end that will be screwed back on. Once it's all lined up-quick with the screws! then the wire pulls right out of the way.

  • P. Cather Dec 31, 2012

Thanks Samuline. The string/wire tip was just what I needed. Also I think it's worth noting that the direction you turn the belt to make your figure 8 is important. Make sure that when you are finished the brush is turning from front to back and not vise versa. If it's wrong just turn the belt figure 8 in the opposite directions.

The belt on my Shark v15Z also broke after 5months.I called their cust serv@ 800 798 7398 and listened to all of the menu selections. I got to a real live person:a very nice lady named Joanie. They had the belts and she shipped them off to me. I received them in 4 days!

It is simply ignorant that Shark had to make its owners go through so much to replace a broken belt. To bad they don't have an access door for quick changing of the belt. I will try all of the above to get it replaced and repaired and running again. Thanks Kj1209, samuline, P. Cather, and Charles. I will let you all know how it comes out.

I Looked everywhere for a belt for the shark V15Z hand vac. Very hard to find one and between the price of the belt and the cost of shipping unreal. I had a great Idea and it worked found a thick elastic band a bit smaller than the original belt and it works fine, It may not last as long as the orig. belt but very cheep to replace. If you can' find one thick enough put 2 or 3 thinner ones together. Hope this helps

I, also, am trying to get it apart to replace the belt...Got one screw out. and i might add are very flimsy screws. Other screw seem all the way loosen, but won't actually come out.

Your vacuum doesn't have a belt - only vacuums with rotating brushes use drive belts.

Euro-pro Shark steam mop has a broken handle.

I have broken 4 shark handles, have repaired them its a pain. remove the screws on the handle end of the head pop out the broken handle part, drill a 3/16 hole into the part tap 1/4 inch threads use a countersunk head 1/4 inch bolt screw it together put epoxy on the inside to lock threads reassemble. its a pain. two small keepers lock the swivel together pry out with a screwdriver carefully dont loose them. I broke one shark handle when it was brand new. this repair works good if you like alot of fooling around
