Question about Technics SL-1200MK2 Turntable
With no record on, everything powers up great, all the lights work, the motor starts up the turntable - and it runs for about 5 seconds then the motor turns off. I put on an LP, and it makes the turntable run about 10-15 seconds, then motor shuts off like it did before. Where do I start with diagnosing this?
The SL1600MK2 is a direct drive turntable. Meaning that there are multiple electronic components which make it turn. With that said, the only place you can start is the main circuit board. Unfortunately, this will not be an easy diagnosis without the proper testing tools - multimeter, and a scope to get you started.
Otherwise, you'll have to take it to a service technican for repair.
Unfortunately, all parts for this model are discontinued, so if it's something that is specific to this unit, it will be very hard to source parts.
