Acer vertical lines/shimmer (by 3 users)

By kcw573 - usenet poster

My Acer AL2416W, which I got just five weeks ago, has been getting
vertical lines -- actually alternating light and dark bands about 2 mm
wide on 1920 x 1200. They appear intermittently, but more often when the
screen is predominantly white. There are also patches of white shimmer
which appear and vanish in roughly horizontal streaks. The problem
started about a week ago, but went away for a while after I turned the
brightness down from maximum to 60%. Now it's back.

My video card is an Nvidia Riva TNT2. I'm running Win98 on an HP
Pavilion 8500. I've tried changing refresh rates, but the only choices
available are Adapter Default, Optimal and 60 Hz, none of which get rid
of the lines.

Also tried searching for a new video driver, but the only one I could
find is for Windows XP.

Is this monitor just incompatible with my machine? Is there any point in
sending it back for service? Did I buy a lemon?

Same issue here, vertical dashed lines and horizontal lines. About 2 months old.

You got a lemon and so did everyone else who bought this monitor. 1920x12 work fine with one of my 7550gx2 cards but, when I activate both of them for quad sli, 1920x1200 flickers and is not usable. I end up having to play my games 1680x1200. Last time I buy a cheap ass Acer. You get what you pay for.

Is there a customer support toll free number among the documents?
If so, you should try that first - they may know of a problem, or how
to remove it. Worse case is they should at least exchange it for you.

Okay, I read this page because I had a similar problem (with the exception that blue pixel/lines appear intermittently when the screen is predominantly DARK).

What I did was checked the cable on the end that goes into the video card, I blew the dust off both the male and female, and connected them tight (I don't think they were that tight before).

As a result of my experience, please check the CABLE. Reconnect, blow on it, replace it if u need to. If this fails, change to VGA/DVI and see if your problem goes away (I know this is not a real fix, but at least it renders the monitor usable for the time being).

Sorry, the guest above was me before registering. I didn't realize it had posted, especially on the "solution" section. Please disregard.

(Btw, I forgot to mention that what I did above fixed the problem)

I have blue intermittent pixels flashing on dark spots on the screen. It's super annoying when watching a movie. They just came up yesterday.
