Question about KitchenAid Superba Architect KSCS25INSS Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Ice maker isn't working and it doesn't appear to be jammed.

Could the hose be frozen? How do I tell and what do I do about it? Thanks.

The tray area seems to be cold enough, and I am getting drinking water, but the ice trays don't seem to be filling up with water

The water solenoid valve may be bad. Obviously it is not energizing and filling the tray with water.

SOURCE: Ice in the freezer isn't frozen real

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
But is probably a common defrost problem The ice build up
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

WATER SPLASHING IN FREEZER AT ICEMAKER
THE FILL TUBE IN BACK OF REFRIGERATOR CAN SLIP

REMOVE THE ICEMAKER AND INSPECT THE FILL TUBE.
RUN WATER IN TUBE TO ELININATE BLOCKAGE AND CHECK

OVERKILL AND USUALLY A WASTE OF ELECTRICITY TO KEEP IT THAT COLD, NOT TO MENTION THE FILL TUBE FREEZING UP

Tip

The ice maker is not working, but ice water dispenser operates

Try defrosting the fridge completely, this will tell you ifd the icemaker lines are frozen.

The ice maker is actuated by a solenoid.

To check if the lines are frozen , defrost the unit.

Check the water valve connected to the hose at the back of the unit.

The ice maker solenoid is tested by reading the ohms on solenoid with a multimeter.

Other faults can concern the impeller pump that is sending water to ice maker, that is tested by energizing the pump.

to disassemble the icemaker click the diagram below:

My model is 596-50699001 and the problem is does't do ice, and change a filter what can I do to fix it ? Thankyou for helpingg me

There three problem that will not make your ice maker to make ice.

If the water’s route is blocked or the solenoid doesn’t work

If the bail wire is lifted—the ice maker won’t make ice.

Your home’s water pressure must be strong enough to serve an ice maker.

For your ice maker to maker ice,
be sure the bail wire above the ice tray is in the down position.

If the ice maker doesn’t make ice but you can see the arm swing into motion and you hear a buzz for about 10 seconds after it is finished, the water valve is asking for water that isn’t arriving. This means the valve and the solenoid are probably okay, but the water supply is not. Be sure the water supply line isn’t kinked behind or beneath the refrigerator (1/4-inch copper tubing is much better than plastic fill line).

Also, check to see if something has caused ice to back up around the mechanism—this can cause the fill tube to freeze, blocking the mechanism. When ice cubes are small and seem to be getting smaller, it generally indicates a frozen fill tube.

Check the water line that enters the back of the freezer for a blockage. Find the water shut-off valve behind the refrigerator or under the sink, turn it off, unscrew the copper line from the back of the refrigerator, put the copper line in a bucket, turn on the valve, and see if pressurized water pours out.

The water line attaches to a solenoid at the back of the refrigerator and then travels to the ice maker. The solenoid may be defective or may not be receiving power. You can try removing the sediment screen inside the solenoid and flushing it with water to clean it, and at the same time you can inspect any seals or diaphragms to ensure that they are sound. Unplug the refrigerator first.

Check the tap valve; a bad tap valve may cause the problem where the ice maker supply tube connects to the water pipe. If necessary, replace the inlet valve and the tap valve. For the tap valve, use the type that requires you to drill a 1/4-inch hole (as opposed to the “self-piercing” type). You can do this yourself, or call a repair person or plumber to install an inline water filter when replacing the valve.

WHIRLPOOL MODEL ED5NHA NOT MAKING ICE, IN DOOR WATER DISPENSER WORKING FINE, ICE CUBES ARE IN THE MOLDING TRAY, BUT WILL NOT GET EJECTED. FILL TUBE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE FROZEN?

Most likely the thermostat # 27 in photo below is defective. It tells the ice maker to begin its cycle by sensing the water is frozen. It is a replacale part.

Refrigerator does not turn off

The water fill pipe in freezer can be defrosted with a hair dryer. I do need to know if your refrigerator is defrosting normally about every 10 hours. If it does not defrost the fresh food compartment temps will increase. Your refrigerator has an adaptive defrost assembly located in the fresh food compartment near the thermostat. Let me know if the refrigerator continues to run and temperature increase.
Thanks, Sea Breeze

Ice Maker Problem

The "ice maker module" is pretty vague. THere's lots of things that work together to make ice. Could be a bad motor, a bad solenoid (electric valve that lets the water in), a broken gear, a loose wire, or just frozen up. If you havent pinpointed the problem, you are probably wasting money buying a new "ice maker module". I'd advise looking for obvious problems (frozen/jammed, no water input, broken looking stuff) and if you dont see anything, call a repairman.
