It really depends on the capacity of your external hard disk. If it has a larger capacity compared to the one on your notebook, then yes it will make the memory bigger.. Take note, we're talking about memory or storage space and not memory as RAM.
if you want to improve the speed of your notebook then we should talk about RAM Memory. If that's the case, you need more RAM and not hard disk.
Please also remember that notebooks can handle only one hard disk. So, if you want to put your external hard disk into your notebook, you will have to remove the other one.
Hello, A disk controller failure can occur because of a few things:
A.) IDE or SATA controller failure. or B.) Hard drive failure.
Since this is a laptop, your most inexpensive troubleshooting and fix for this would be to test another ATA 5 hard drive in the machine. If you can successfully re-install Windows on it, the ATA/IDE controller is most likely fine and the issue is just with your hard drive.
Hard drives are easily replaced... controllers are not and would require a new motherboard.
The problem you are receiving is actually that your computer does not pick up a Hard drive. Hence, as you said you have replaced your motherboard, so i would suggest that you make sure that your Hard drive is plugged in properly with all the necessary cables connected.
Hello And Welcome to FixYa!
If you want to expand your Hard disk capacity, you can replace the current hard disk (80Gb) with a 160, 320Gb hard. It can easily support an amount up to the quoted capacity.
