Why does the car start by itself after I installed the remote starter?

The car will start immediately after the button is pressed, but sometimes no body will be around the remote and we will walk outside to find the vehicle has been running, when nobody pressed the button.

I could be to things, if the remote start has a remote timer, that you can program the remote start to start every hour for like 5 minutes, or there is an activation wire on the remote start that is getting grouned somehow and allowing the car to start. What i would do is look in your manual and see how to bring the remote start back to all its original factory settings, and make sure all loose wires are taped up and not touching anything. If you need help on manuals or anything let me know and i can walk you through it.

Remote will only start when i am close to vehicle

It depends on many things - mostly the range of the system itself and especially where you located the remote antenna. Some installers don't use the antenna and that will limit range severely. Most manufacturers want the antenna routed up the windshield pillar and mounted near the top of the windshield glass. This gives best reception since glass does not hinder the RF signal. OF course, a weak battery in the remote can cause range issues as well.

On some remote starters, there is print on the back of the remote starter itself. It is hard to see with it being black raised text on a black box. If not there, sorry DEI Viper is pretty protective on their installation manuals.

Sounds like the ignition or accessory output from the remote starter is connected to the starter wire. Has it always done this?

There are two types of starters for Dodge, if you installed new battery, check to see if the remote start is to ignition module or starter solenoid, then make sure the circuit has not been closed-they go in series circuit!

I have a new prestige APS-57C remote starter installed in a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe and I have a problem with the factory alarm going off every once and awhile. The majority of the time everything is fine,...

Maybe the installer did not hook up the remote starter unit to disarm the factory security system upon entry or remote-starting. Ask the installer to double check that part of the install as it would cause the factory security to trigger even though you unlocked the vehicle with the remote start unit remote.

My vehicle starts but then quits right away. As I walk towards my vehicle it starts on it's own, but then still quits.

All directed electronic starters have a feature that when you go to start it by the remote if the car didn't start the first time then it will try 2 more times and after the 3rd try it will just not try again. Depending on the car it can be a security bypass that is not allowing it to stay running or it can be a problem not knowing the car has started and it shuts itself down. You need to make sure the starter is connected to the tach signal so that it can stay running for you. This is the best way for the starter to know your car is running and will not shut itself down.

did you follow the procedure for programming the remote starter portion of the unit yet?? We get 20-30 calls a day because people do NOT program the starter to start a certain way. It is specified in the INSTALLATION manual that the unit needs to be programmed before using the remote starter.

Trouble getting car to start-"Security" light goes on...

I spoke with a customer service person at Viper, they said that the starter is "skipping", specifically that I need to bring it to whoever installed it (Best Buy, in this case) and have them reprogram the module. This should resolve the issue. When I described the problem, the CS person seemed to know exactly what I was talking about--as though it is rather common--and assured me that the installer(s) will know exactly what it is and how to fix it.

Car starter not working

look under the dash for a small silver toggle switch....this is a disable switch for the remote start portion of the system..you may have kicked it / bumped it with your foot, causing the remote start portion to be deactivated. Just flip the switch the opposite way and try again..
Also, there may have been a pin style switch installed under the hood...Check to see if it is bent or broken, if it is, simply disconnect it and insulate the wire that was going to it.
This wire is used as a safety to keep the vehicle from remote starting while the hood is up..to keep people from being injured if the remote start is activated while the engine is being worked on.
Have whatever shop installed the system replace your pinswitch if that is the problem.
