Question about IOGear Cardbus Card GPU202 Serial Adapter

1 Answer

Iogear gpu 202 cardbus not working with mac powerbook osx 10.4.11

I have a mac powerbook g4 15" 1.0 Ghz running tiger 10.4.11. It has very slow usb 1.0 and I purchased the IO Gear GPU 202 cardbus so I could run USB 2.0.   When I went to download the iogear drivers from their website, they only had drivers for OSX 10.1 and 10.2.  I downloaded the 10.2 hoping it would be reverse compatible.   When I plug in the card bus with my usb device, my mac does not register either the cardbus or the device. Does anybody know if this is compatible with my powerbook/OS and if not, if there is another cardbus out there that is.
Thanks so much for the help!

I'm having the same problem trying to install the drivers on my Titanium G4 PowerBook under OS X 10.4.11.  I'm going to call their tech support number tomorrow ...

According to the IOGear website, the card shouldn't need drivers under 10.4 Tiger ... but it sure doesn't work without them.

Try the TechGear USB 2.0 cardbus. There are some available on eBay for $10.00. Item number is 250394104416. I bought two for older Titanium 15" PowerBooks, one on 10.4.11; one on 10.3.9. The cards works perfectly with no software drivers. I just inserted them into the PC slots and they work fine. In one case, one computer had a bad factory USB 1.1 slot, so the card does well for extending the comuter's life. The card included a CD with drivers for older versions of Windows and Mac 10.1 and Mac 10.2. I would NOT install drivers for newer systems.

Usb doesnt recognize serial device

You didn't mention exactly what keyspan device you're trying to install. That's some pretty important information, but I'm going to make a suggestion based on what I've got at this moment. If you need more, you've got to give more info.

I'm assuming that if there is a power supply for your device, it is plugged in and working properly. Do you have the drivers installed for the end device? If not, the device might not be backward compatible. Your best bet would be to simply run it on an older computer, if you can.

If it was me, I think I'd carefully check the pins on the device you're trying to adapt to USB. Those pins are pretty delicate, compared to USB. One bent or missing data pin and it might not work.

I have a combo cardbus card, when i put it in to the slot it turns the laptop off.

The combo cardbus is creating some type of conflict to your router and that one is a sign of compatibility issue so better if you just have the card replace....

I have a cardbus card 2.0 and it's recognizing my ipod but not my

You might check with your manufacture and make sure it's 2.0, I known some PC's to come with 1.02 REV2.

Also the best way to check a USB if its working check the following pins on the USB and grab a DMM and measure them.

- From PIN 1 to PIN 4 should measure 5.0V if it's working correctly.

Usb to serial adapter question

Try installing the Wacom USB drivers on the Mac. As I understand it, this adapter is designed to interact with devices that have their own serial drivers installed--such as a PDA, cell phone, camera, etc.--not necessarily with an input device, such as a drawing tablet, game controller, or pointing device. YMMV.
