This Unit does NOT take ink. That is one of it's "benefits." Since it uses heat transfer, im thinking it either needs new batteries, or it's heat device has been expended. This is a cheap little maker, so it isnt made to handle the abuse of an office: it's meant for a label from week to week. If you went on a label spree all over the house, you killed it. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Does a DYMO Letratag QX50 have a replaceable ink

It is a thermal printer and thus does not use ink.

The most likely cause of poor print quality is low batteries. Replace your batteries or plug in the power adapter.

If this does not help check that the label cassette is in place correctly and that the print head is clean. You could also try a new label cassette.

Dymo don't do spare parts for their machines - because most of them are so cheap now that it's much cheaper to buy a new one than it is to repair them.

This is especially so for the LetraTAG machines which are the cheapest in the Dymo label maker range.

For that price it's a no-brainer - if the display is unreadable just buy a new one!

The ink seems to be fading, but there is no ink, so what the solution?

There is no ink, toner, drum, ribbon or anything else. The labelwriter uses a fixed thermal printhead to print onto heat sensitive labels. This problem on the handheld labellers is almost always an early indication of low batteries.

But this labeller is only powered by the mains, so isn't the problem here. Assuming you using genuine labels then the only likely explanation is that the printhead needs cleaning.

If the 'fading' is happening unevenly across the label then this is probably the likely problem so you need one of these:

Dymo Cleaing Card

If it's not that then it's most likely a hardware fault of some kind, either with the printhead or the power supply. There's not really a lot that can go wrong with these machines...

Cleaned printer but printing is faded...

You may need to replace the toner cartridge or replace the transfer roller, I believe that's what it's called. It's the roller that transfers the ink from the toner cartridge to the paper.

Faded stripe down the printed page

I found a solution that worked to eliminate the faded black stripe down the page thanks to a post by slamfix in another forum. The problem is related to ink build up on the blade edge of the black developer assembly in the imaging unit (the imaging unit contains 4 separate developers - yellow, blue, magenta, and black). The solution involves taking out the imaging unit, removing and cleaning the blade edge of the black ink developer until smooth. It took me about 15 minutes to complete and was fairly straightforward.

Ink is fading on my qx50

Dymo Labellers don't use ink, they are thermal printers. When the print fades it usually means the batteries are running out.

Right side of label faded or blank after replacing printhead

Things to check:

1. Move the pressure arm further towards the outside of the printhead. Adjust if needed using only the minimum pressure required in order to achieve uniform print quality.

2. Inspect the printhead to ensure it has properly engaged the alignment pins. I have had after-market printheads that did not line up correctly and required "surgery" to make them properly seat on the mounting pins.

3. Check for worn platen roller bearings. If they're are sufficiently worn, one side of the platen roller will be slightly lower than the other.

4. Consider replacing the platen roller. They do wear out and require replacement. Zebra part number 40038M IIRC.

5. Check the printhead parallelism adjustment. The procedure is in the maintenance manual.

Dymo Letra Tag

It runs on heat transfer. It probably needs new batterys. If youve been on a labeling spree you've most likel killed it.
