The reason I paid 10.00 was to see if I could resolve the problem before resulting to that solution!! thank you!

  • pantojas_pet Mar 01, 2009

I knew from the beginning that I would have to send the unit garmin to get it unlocked! just trying some other solution before I come to that conclusion! Thanks.

  • pantojas_pet Mar 01, 2009

I still can not clear the screen! I did what page 50 says. but I still keep getting the page that has numbers to punch in the pin!!!

  • pantojas_pet Mar 01, 2009

Please I forgot my pin and can not reset my nuvi 765 I've done some of the suggested things from fixja but nothing has work so far!!

  • pantojas_pet Mar 01, 2009

I guess I going to have to send my unit to garmin because everything that I have read pertaining to this unit says that there is no way to unlock the unit because once you enter a pin you cannot unlock it! unless you send it to garmin!!

  • pantojas_pet Mar 01, 2009

Your right! I already spend 10.00 trying to unlock! the truth is that it has to be sent to garmin. thank you!!

After you set the PIN, you will be asked to set the "secure" location. This can be anywhere.... your work location, home, local gas station, school, etc. In order to set the secure location, your antenna must be up and you have to have a satellite lock. If you don't have a lock, the "set" key will be grayed out until you acquire a lock.

The secure location is your "back-up key" in case you forget your PIN. If you have forget your pin, all you have to do is physically go to the secure location. Make sure your antenna is up and that you have a satellite lock. When you are in the secure location, your GPS will NOT ask you for the PIN when you turn it on. You'll then be able to reach the main menu and change the PIN and secure location to something else if you desire.

If you have forgot both the PIN and secure location you are out of luck. You'll have to send your unit back to Garmin to have it unlocked. Garmin may charge you for this service.

The Garmin FAQ database mentions this:

"NOTE: If you forget your PIN and your security location, Garmin Product Support cannot unlock the GPS over the phone. You must send the device to Garmin for service."

This applies to your GPS. Therefore you will have to contact Garmin for information on sending in your GPS to get it unlocked.

I am sorry to say, but everyone here has said it already. There is no way to unlock it if you no longer know the pin, other than sending it to Garmin. If you legitimately own it, then this will inconvenience you at the most, and it will be done. If you don't own it, then you are not going to get what you are wanting here.Sorry to tell you this, however, if you bought it secondhand from someone who was " just selling it" for the cash, then you should have gotten the pin then. Either way, your out.

Hope this helps you.

See the manual and try the default code to unlock it.

If that doesn't work then Contact GARMIN , they will ask you your Owner's card/warranty card (came with your unit and they will unlock your item.)

Lost PIN for Garmin Lock - Nuvi Series - FixYa

  • Ginko

I quote from the website above:

"Garmin provides a feature called "Garmin Lock", which allows the GPS
owner to assign a (4) digit numeric unlock access code or PIN to their
    GPS.

The PIN is designed to prevent your GPS from being used by
an un-authorized user. It was also meant to be used a a deterrent to
thieves, making the GPS useless if stolen.

    The PIN setup can be
accessed by pressing the "wrench" symbol on the main menu (Nuvi
Series). Next, press the "gear" symbol and you should see a listing for
    Garmin Lock.

When you set up the PIN, you will be asked to enter
in a (4) digit numeric code. After you enter the 4th digit, you will be
asked again for the code. This is to make sure that both entries match
and that verify that the PIN that you request will be the one written
    into memory.

Your PIN is written into non-volatile memory.....
it's not a file that is accessible via USB communications between the
GPS and a PC. You can't clear it by disconnecting the power or
disconnecting the battery or letting the battery run down. There is no
jumper or switch inside the GPS to reset it, so don't waste your time
    tearing the GPS apart.

Now, after you set the PIN, you will be
asked to set the "secure" location. This can be anywhere.... your work
location, home, local gas station, school, etc. In order to set the
secure location, your antenna must be up and you have to have a
satellite lock. If you don't have a lock, the "set" key will be grayed
out until you acquire a lock.

    The secure location is your
"back-up key" in case you forget your PIN. If you have forget your pin,
all you have to do is physically go to the secure location. Make sure
your antenna is up and that you have a satellite lock. When you are in
the secure location, your GPS will NOT ask you for the PIN when you
turn it on. You'll then be able to reach the main menu and change the
PIN and secure location to something else if you desire.

    If you
have forgot both the PIN and secure location you are out of luck.
You'll have to send your unit back to Garmin to have it unlocked.
Garmin may charge you for this service.

    Note: If you do
send the unit back to Garmin to be unlocked and you are found not to be
the original owner of the GPS and it's determined to be stolen, Garmin
will contact law enforcement (they're policy on this is right on their
    website under FAQ's)."

Garmin 765 turns on and sais loading maps then

I've had this issue on my Nuvi 1300, where holding the power button for 10-15 seconds would restart the unit, but it would freeze at the "loading maps." part. I ended up plugging the unit into my PC, which started it for purposes of data transfer. I then disconnected it from the PC and it restarted properly.
Try that out and see if you have any better luck.

How to upload MP3 music

Step 1: Plug your Garmin 765 into your computer (Windows, Mac, Linux, Unix) with a USB cable. Step 2: Navigate to the drive named GARMIN (varies by type of computer you have). Step 3: Create a folder in the root for the GARMIN drive called MP3 (in all caps, just like the JPEG folder). Step 4: Copy your MP3 files into this folder. Step 5: Eject the GARMIN drive like any other USB drive. Step 6: Unplug the USB cable as the 765 starts-up. Step 7: Click Menu > Tools > Media Player > Browse Step 8: Enjoy your music!
