Question about Toshiba Satellite 1415-S105 Notebook

Internet Explorer/Firefox stops responding

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300-1AQ which I purchased one month ago. I am getting very frustrated with it as it varies randomly, sometimes I have it switched on for an hour other times its about ten mins when either IE or Firefox stops responding. I get the little busy hourglass and the bar on the bottom loading but it never gets there. I know I am still connected to the internet as my email program allows mail to come in and/or I am chatting on msn messenger. The only solution is for me to reboot the pc, sometimes it takes about 10 or more mins for the system to shut down. I seem to be the only one in my house affected by this as my daughter has a much cheaper Acer laptop and has not once had a problem with it.
I am running windows Vista

    No joy I have now updated to IE8 and the same thing happens



    I have Zonealarm running and Avast which I have ran for the past 8 years with no problems. Is it Vista that is my problem ? :o(

I had a few people who had problems similar to yours it needs a lot of work arounds.

1. Make sure your firwall or virus program does not interupt the IE. (try closing it for a while)

2. Put everything in IE in defaults.

3. Update the IE directly from the net

I keep getting pop ups from antivirus GT how do I stop them They freeze my laptop and turn my screen dark


Thank you for your question.

Without going too deep into technical details, Popups are not "viruses", they are "malware" (malicious ware) and are not detected by a Anti Virus Programme.

In my case, I use Firefox Web Browser instead of Internet Explorer. In the "Tools/Options/Content" there is a check box to mark to stop Popups. It does a fantastic job, well worth considering. Link to download Firefox is below.

That's because ActiveX is a proprietary Microsoft technology built into Internet Explorer only.

However, there is a Firefox plug-in "IE Tab" that lets you switch the rendering engine of Firefox to use IE internally. This will look like enabled ActiveX controls in the Firefox panel. Strictly speaking its not Firefox running them, its the hijacked IE running inside Firefox.

My computer says its connect to my wireless network yet I can't access the internet!


Try resetting your router first off. Then repair your connection by right-clicking on the connection. You may have a sketchy router or one that could benefit from a firmware upgrade. I would get into the router's homepage and check the settings for your connection, then make sure your getting IP addresses and DNS addresses from your ISP.

Internet explorer is not responding on my laptop it goes for about 5 minutes and then says internet explorer not responding so I cant get on the internet it was fine this morning


If you are using IE 6 this is a common problem with HP, try getting a copy of Firefox 3 and then go to Microsoft.com and download a copy of IE7.
You may prefer to use Firefox instead as your main browser.

Windows Explorer is not responding


Regcure can fix minor ptoblem to the registry , but it is not of any use against virused or problems caused from spyware.

If you reinstalled windows, Update Internet Explorer, Internet Explorer 6 normally crashes: Internet Explorer: Get It Now.

If IE keeps crashing, use Firefox, it is much better.

By "Explorer" I'm assuming you mean Internet Explorer and not Windows Explorer, since you refer to other browsers. This sounds like you have gotten some viruses. Do you have anti-virus software installed? All Windows Defender does is protect against ad-ware and spy-ware or in simple terms, pop-ups. I would suggest you get a good anti-virus program and scan your system! By the way, you don't have to download anything to get viruses from the internet.
