If your version of windows has a "RESTORE " function , like Xp pro has , just restore the computer to a time before you deleted the file.  If not , I know that the CD function and Media player a function of the windows operating system,so check the downloads for your model unless you have the restore disk already? Safe everything first, somewhere else via floppy, or cable or external Hard drive..

My cd drive doesn't recognize any media, even though my hardware manager says it's working fine. Computer is a Gateway GT5062E. Suggestions on where to start would be wonderful. Thank you

make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or
your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in or
you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
control panel admistrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver, roll back driver,or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall

I am having a problem with my hp cd/dvd burner drive. when I go into wmp and try to burn something it tells me to connect a burner and restart the player, please help

What version of Windows Media Player are you currently using? If it is not up-to-date, try updating Windows and Windows Media Player. Then attempt to create the CD.

If that doesn't work, try updating the driver for your CD-ROM drive. Navigate to HP's Support Site, type in your machine model and search fot the CD drivers there. Update the necessary drivers and attempt to create the CD once more.

I hope I was able to help. Good luck!

Sonic record now program will not find cd drive

    1. Update your drive's firmware/drivers. Most companies regularly update their firmware and drivers. If you are unsure what model your burner is and its firmware, click here to find out.

    2. Enable DMA. Direct Memory Access enables better efficiency of data. For more info, check how to enable DMA.
    3. Your media. Check the following:
      • The disc is clean and unused.
      • The media is recommended by your burner's manufacturer or try a different brand, preferably a name brand, if you continue to have problems.
      • Make sure that media (-R/+R, -/+RW, dual-layer compatibility) is supported by the burner by checking burner's manual or manufacturer's website. This is especially true for some Blu-Ray burners which do not support CD-R/RW media.

    4. Lower the write speed of your burner.
    5. If your burner is external, make sure it is connected directly to the computer via USB/Firewire and not a hub or other other device like a sound card.
    6. Update to the latest PX Engine. The PX Engine improves compatibility with newer burners on the market.
    7. A reinstall of the burner's drivers may also help.
      • Windows XP: Go to My Computer and choose Properties.
      • Windows Vista: Go to Start --> Control Panel --> System and Maintenance --> Device Manager.
      • Click on the Hardware tab.
      • Select Device Manager
      • Expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives, then select your burner and uninstall it by right -licking on it.
      • Reboot.

    • If is not located in the add/remove programs folder
    • Click the START button and select Run.
    • Type in: regedit in the command box.
    • When the regedit window appears, expand the HKEY LOCAL MACHINE by clicking on the plus sign to its right.
    • Now Click on the plus next to SOFTWARE, then MICROSOFT, then WINDOWS, then CURRENT VERSION and finally UNINSTALL
    • When you expand the Uninstall folder, you'll see all the programs currently installed, such as the uninstall Media Player 10 or Media Player, etc.
    • Click on the folder you want to uninstall, in the box on the right you will see two strings: DisplayName and UninstallString.
    • Double click UninstallString and a box will appear with the uninstall string highlighted.
    • Right click on the highlighted entry and select COPY.
    • Close the Regedit window.
    • Select the START button and click RUN.

MY PC no longer "burns" cds-but there is no "error" message

My only suggestion is to borrow another burner if possible and see if you get the same error with with that one. This will be the simplest way to determine if you have a software problem or if your burner has a fault.

Want to be able to burn cd's so i can hear music on any cd player. right now media player only burns for mp3.

Well, go search on how to get Media Player to burn other formats you're interested in, or download another free burner program (see VersionTracker.com to search, for example) which is amenable to burning .FLAC or .ape or such.

    Cd burner

You may want to double-check the "error" message. Normally, when you insert a blank CD-R or CD-R/W you'll see a pop-up message that says something like, "you've inserted a blank CD. What program do you want to use to put something on it?" And then it will give a list of programs like Windows Media Player, Nero Burning ROM, Roxio, MyDVD, etc. The last two choices are "Open a writeable folder" and "Do nothing." The next to last, the open folder, option is the CD recording option for Windows. Once you've put copies of that data into the new window click on the "burn these files to disc" link on the left side or located under the File menu at the top of the window.

Now, if it truly is telling you that you have to insert a blank CD, then you may have one of two problems. Either the CD you're putting in is NOT actually blank or the drive is having problems recognizing the media. To test the first scenario, try the disc on another computer. If it's truly blank, then try uninstalling the CD burner from your Device Manager located in the Windows control panel. Double-click on the System icon > Hardware tab > Device Manager > click on the (+) symbol next to DVD/CD-ROM drives and then highlight your Sony CD burner > right-click and in the menu choose Uninstall. Reboot your system and let Windows redetect the drive and reinstall the drivers (You may want to have any install discs handy, just in case Windows asks for them, but not likely).

    I hope that helps!
