Remove the battery for the camera for about 5 minutes and then after that connect it to a different USB port and see if your computer will recognize it once its connected to the USB port if still not detected restart the computer, If still not detected better if you try to use a different USB cable and also to try connecting that camera to a different computer....

Please RESET camera by going into Menu -> Internalize -> OK
Also replace USB cable and check USB port in camera that might have broken contacts.

Please confirm computer USB port by hooking any other USB device and check does Windows recognize it? That will confirm that Windows itself is fine.
Regarding RESET of camera, please see below image that showing RESET switch in DSC-F828,you need to press it.

Start unplugging computer power cable for ten minutes.

Try also a different usb port on computer.

This camera should be recognised by the computer even without the camera software installed.

Start testing the camera on a different USB port, straight on the computer (no USB hub).

Test also a different USB cable.

If still no luck do an hard reset, do the following:

    Unplug camera from computer.
    Remove camera battery.
    Unplug computer power cord.
If computer is a laptop , also remove battery.
    Reassemble everything together.

If that does not work, test the camera on a different computer, probably the problem is Windows.

To fix Windows problem do a system restore to a date before the problem started.

    You find system restore on
Start Button>>Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore in windows.

If still no joy try installing camera software from camera cd, but usually you need to reinstall defective Windows on computer.

Sony Cybershot DSC-W180 won't turn on when plugged into computer.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

You might try going to a place that repairs watches and jewelry...they usually keep an assortment of tiny screws on hand.

My sony cybershot T2 is no longer recognized by any computer I connect it to via USB. But when I connect my sister's camera (also a T2), it works fine? please help

You may have a bad USB in your camera connector in your camera. Any repair shop should be able to repair for less than $50.00. Also check that you do not have a bad cable. You may also want to try on a different computer than yours. if it works you may have a driver or USB conflict with your computer.

Downloaded driver for cybershot dsc s500, then try to interface camera with computer, pc doesnt see the camera in control panel or my computer removable hard drive.

Sony has the roughest firmware known to man for digital cameras. If running Windows XP or Vista you can simply connect the camera to the USB port and let the computer do the rest. Picbrige works the best for it downloads the quickest. Picbrige will be on your cameras list of choices to use for downloading

Help! Sony Cybershot DSC-S40 won't load to XP Home

Step One: Reread the instructions on how to connect the camera to the computer, paying particular attention to what mode the camera should be in. Step Two: If the Sony instructions don't say what mode the camera shoud be in: Make sure that the camera is turned on and in "Playback" mode (the mode where you can view the photos on the LCD), before connecting it to the computer.
