Tried the system restore thing but it keeps saying that there was an error doing it? hmm....and it won't detect the hardware 'as new'

I did wonder about resetting the laptop to factory settings but worried it might erase the programmes it came with (norton etc...)

Restore your computer to a earlier date.
In windows XP go clic on Start ---> All Programs ---> Accesories ---> System Tools ---> System Restore.
Select a restore point previous to the incident (like the day before that happen) and restart.
Good Luck!!!!

it's advisable to make a backup of your hard drive in an external storage device before restoring the laptop to the factory settings.

    Good luck!!!!

You can try to let your computer detect it as "new". If you start up your computer, go into the control panel and choose the "Add New Hardware" and let the computer try to detect the bluetooth by itself. That's the easiest way. If it doesn't detect it, you can do it manually in the "Add New Hardware" also.

I don't know how to activate the blue \tooth an my

All you need to do is go to CONTROL PANEL and from there look for the Bluetooth and have to activate it. Or Press on F2 when turning back on the laptop by going to the BIOS setup and have to enable the Bluetooth device. Thank you.

Bluetooth on acer 5520

some do and some dont, blue tooth is optional on most laptops.
the best way to find out is to try to install the blue tooth driver from the acer web site.. it will be able to tell you if it is installed.

Ibm t43 laptop's bluetooth cannot find devices

This sounds like it is exactly what I scratched my head about when I first inhereted my T43 at work. If it is, you are going to laugh at how simple it issue is. IBM in their great wisdom made a custom control for the wireless network antenna and bluetooth antenna. Try:

Hit Fn+F5. This will bring up a window where you can control turning on/off each antenna. When you turn on the bluetooth, the symbol in the system tray should turn to blue and white and the little green bluetooth light just below the screen should come on. I hope this helps.
