Dont know if this helps but those models were know to have bad Motherboards. Worked at a company that had 34 of their PCs running that model and had to have all the motherboards replaced because the PC's would crash and could not reload. It did the samething like yours. It will install then get stuck at some part of the installation. Once we replaced the board the installation went on fine.

    Geez.

Hmm...maybe the cd /dvd drive lens is dirty.

Have you tried cleaning the laser lens with a q-tip?

Does the system feel hot when it stops at 52%

Have you tried booting with a live linux cd?

try booting with knoppix or an ubuntu cd.

you've got to download the image file ( iso) and then burn it to a cd or dvd.

This will help us figure out what's going on with the computer.

You will need to obtain a Dell Windows XP installation CD. Unfortunately, these discs cannot be bought from the local computer store, but you may have luck posting a request on Craigslist.

Sound problems after reinstallation of windows

Did you install it to the factroy default installation or did you install windows anew?

You need to install the Dell sound drivers. They're found on the dell home page or on your media that came with the Optiplex.

Also, check the system control / administtration / hardware section to see if windows potted a problem with the hardware.

Dell Optiplex GX270 will not boot from disk

Does it show

boot from cdrom?
did you answer (Y)
then hit spacebar?
have the bios set to boot from cdrom/first boot device cd-rom?
If any of these settings are not applyed you will not restore xp on your computer

go into bios and conferm settings

first boot device if set as floppy or hard drive change to cdrom
on some systems you can hit the (f12) key to bring up a boot window and select the cdrom and boot from there then it will ask the normal questions

There should be no problem, if the sound doesn’t work try uninstalling the the Drivers and Reinstalling after you installed Vista im pretty sure that Vista will install the Drivers automatically.

Very very very slow performance

That is way off buddy should take no more than 1 hour to install and you should be able to boot up into windows in 30 seconds or less. I suggest you first run a virus checker. You probably have a virus that is why it is taking so long. If their are too many virus;s then wipe all the data off your hard drive and reinstall. That will get rid of the virus. Also run disk cleanup and disk defrag that are in the accessories/system tools. Good luck, let me know if you have any questions.

I have experienced this problem as well, it is either the CD is scratch or the CD-rom lens needs cleaning, however it can read the content of the CD, I would susgest you try a another CD-rom , borrow it from a friend. It works for me.

Check your BIOS. If it rebooted chances are it might work if you change the way the BIOS sees and boots the devices. Try rebooting without the flash drive in. What happens?

From the research I've done, it sounds like an issue with a (possibly corrupt) file in the video driver. Most people are recommending another video card be installed temporarily, to complete the windows installation. After that, you can uninstall the original video driver, shut down, then restart to have Windows reinstall the original video again.
