Question about Gateway FPD1760 Monitor

1 Answer

Gateway Monitor keeps going black

Monitor has been fine until yesterday. Today, when I turn on the monitor, it comes on for a second or two, I can see the Windows desktop clearly with Signal:Analog and then it goes black. Cycling through with the Input button on the side shows the 3 color no signal screen momentarily before going black and then returns to the desktop, going black almost immediately. I've checked the connection to the CPU and it's ok. I've swapped cables with a working monitor and this one still doesn't work. Ideas?

Alicia, Your monitor digital board is OK. The problem is with the power supply/ Inverter board(s) in back of the LCD/LPD Panel that you look at. You will need to question Gateway to see if they have a swapout program where you send them $30-$60 and your old monitor, and they will send you a refurbished (new cold cathode fluorescent tubes w/inverter board installed ) complete monitor. I'll tell you one thing though. Alicia, Don't feel bad abt this monitor of your's failing. You have joined the club with over 2000 others whose CCF tubes and INVERTER boards have with time now fail to light-up their LCD panels. Yes, there are some companys that do repair of these monitors. Try surfing under CCF tubes or FPD repair, or LCD repair. Yes Alicia, you are dealing with a technology similar to the new type of screw-in light bulbs, only the tubes are thinner and laid flat horizontally across the rear of your LCD panel with a reflecting mirror in back of them. Good luck girl in getting it repaired. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @aol .com North of Chicago 40 miles

My monitor keeps blacking out. When I turn it on the picture is fine for a few seconds to a few minutes and then it blacks out again. I can still see that there is a very faint picture there but...

This can be related to a thermal runaway of a component ,more likely to be in the signal processing section. If you are able to use a FREEZE-IT spray on the heated component- likey an IC- this can be confirmed as the ccooling must bring back the picture. Also simulation with a heater can make the fault appear and so you can pinpoint to the fault.

Gateway FPD1750 monitor's keep go black screen, no picture at al

tgordon60, If you know how those NEW "CURLIE-Q" energy efficient CFL light bulbs produce WHITE LIGHT, then you will know what makes an LCD display panel produce all the pretty colors and the WHITE BACKGROUND of the FIXYA web page!!! Only difference is that your "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" are thinner and straight, and hung on rear of LCD glass panel and have a DC to AC electronic ballast called an "INVERTER" circuit to produce 600 to 1000vac to light them up. Get to my FIXYA profile and read my responses to other BLACK screen lcd owners to learn about all your options for repair. Follow any of the links to other web pages you find there. Your monitor not any different than ACER, DELL, VIEWSONIC, BENQ, SONY, AOC!!!!! 12fixlouie aka louie12fix

My screen goes black after a few seconds

Sounds like a bad solder joint on the printed circuit board. Once it heats up then it no longer makes good contact and the monitor goes black until it cools down and makes contact again. You could resolder it if you knew where it was but monitors are dangerous to go playing around with as they can hold very high charges of electricity in their capacitors that are very dangerous. It's a throw away world. Go buy a new one.

Gateway monitor FPD1975W won't display

Same problem - unplug both computer and monitor - hold power button for monitor for 15-30 seconds...then power it back on and then power on the computer. Seems from other sites there is a power issue with the monitor - this worked for me.
