Question about Gateway 504GR PC Desktop

1 Answer

Gateway will not turn on.

This is a Gateway 504GR. When I press the on/off button it clicks like normal but will not turn on. No reaction at all. Prior to this I would make a funny noise and act as if it were going to start but the second on let go of the button it did nothing.
Not sure its worth the repair.
Thanks.

Sounds like the power supply. Here is the part number that you can shop for online.
Bestec ATX-300-12EB3 power supply. Rev. S2

I found them on Yahoo shopping for as low as $47.39.

Hope this helps.

Gateway 504gr bios update failed

You maybe using the wrong version, it's already updated, or simply can not be upgraded.
Unless there is a TRUE need to flash, and usually there is not, I would stay away from. So many people try and fail, only to wipe the CMOS, leaving the system useless. Here is some sound advice on the subject.

I usually leave my PC on unless I will be gone for over a week or so. I turned it off and turned it back on about 10 days later. It would not power up, when I held in the power button I could hear a fan...

It's impossible to be 100% sure, but if you don't even get to POST and have replaced the power supply it's a good bet your motherboard is fried.

Gateway 504GR starts running then the monitor read "power saving"

mine does the same thing, the first time it did it, i removed the dial-up modem that it came with, and it booted up just fine with no problems. now, after a year ago of this happening it decides to do it again this morning, so i'm kind of clueless now, considering that there's no modem in it, so i have no idea what could be causing the problem

I have a Gateway 504 GR and my brother got a few viruses on it. I tried to delete them in Safemode but failed. I then got our Windows Disk and reinstalled the OS. In doing so we lost all of our Drivers....

I assume you have copied the downloaded files to the Gateway computer.
When you click on the various downloaded files it unzips and creates a folder for each unzipped file and then the expanded the files are placed into this folder.
To install the various drivers, open each folder (one at a time) and run the SETUP file or INSTALL file that is in this folder.

Locks up at destuctive restore

you need to enable the USB controllers in the bios, (this F1 or F2 on boot up), before you can complete the restore, there are no viruses there because you are not booted into windows so a virus won't affect it

good luck and keep us informed with your progress
