I have a DU7800XS-2 dishwasher with a broken spring. I have purchased a new spring but can't seem to attach it. The spring is about 4" long with a detachable rod through the center and a loop at one end. On the underside of the washer are notches (3) which obviously is supposed to receive the looped end. Very tight clearance so am wondering if I am supposed to pull the unit out or can I connect underneath without removing?

Remove the lock from the door and make sure the tailpiece of the key cylinder is still attached. There is a retainer cap that screws on the back, to hold the tailpiece. It might have come loose or been broken. This is an unusual problem if the lock was properly assembled and installed.
to take the lock to bits to get it off an old door you have to take the handle off the ''1000'' so people dont usually put it back on properly giving the appearance that its broken to fix it back on when the collar is tighened you should see a small hole push a dart or something pointed into it whilst pushing on the handle knob then slowly pull out the dart or point whilst at the same time applying pressure to push the handle on it should click and go about quarter of an inch further then itll be secure
Try taking the batteries out and put them in again. Also try to clean the contacts with a pencil erasser. Try putting in new batteries.
If you have the turn knob inside the door check to see if the plastic isn't cracked (broken) if it is that would stop your batteries from working.
Yes, it appears that the battery connector has been damaged. You will need to replace this in order to get your lock working properly again.
You can get a new connector at any RadioShack store, or any other electronics type store, or hobbyist shop. the replacement can be done with either a soldering iron or with simple crimp connectors to attache the new connector to the same colored wires on the damaged connector.
If you are going to solder the wires together, make sure you either use some heat shrink tubing (put on each wire before soldering them) or wrap some electrical tape around each wire after splicing, or use insulated crimp connectors to prevent shorting of the leads when done.
If the handle has been forced their is a part inside that is broken and it appears as if the handle is loose. I have priced the replacement parts and they were over 75% of what I could purchase the whole thing for ,so I elected to purchase new and go with the direct replacment model L1000 (Lever) to make it ADA compliant at the same time.
The problem is with the small o-ring that is located on the main gear which is located under the sealed housing on the electronics board.
You need be carefull not to loose any of the small parts.
First you must remove the assembly that is located on the inside of your door. That will be the part with the electronics and batteries. Then place that part on a table with the knob facing the table. You will see 4 very small screws. Remove them. Just above the top screws that you just removed you will see a plastic retainer with 2 gears under it. It is right next to the the motor and worm gear. Holding that retainer down are 2 washer clips. Using a small very thin screw driver, CARFULLY remove those clips. The retainer will slip off and you can remove the asembly wear the knob is located. You will see a large flat gear that is attached to the knob shaft. Remove that gear by twisting the knob as you pull the gear. After the gear is removed, turn it over and you will see a black O-ring in the center. Use your small screw driver to pry it out. That ring is warn and you will need to replace it. You should be able to get it at your locale hardware store.
Put everything back in reverse order. Add a very small amount grease to the gears and you will be back in business. (((Remember to use a grease that will not harm the plastic parts)))
