Question about JVC AV-48WP74 48" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Jvc av-48wp74 i have sound but no picture History I have a JVC AV-48wp74 Projection tv when i got this tv the stk ic's were overheating and the picture would come and go typical of overheating . I put a fan on the IC's to figure out that they were bad. I replaced the Convegance board (new)everthing seemed to be good Except it was still over heating. So i installed 3 little box fans to keep things cool . But during the install i by accident crossed a ground to a diode on the LCB10219 power & Def pwb board in the V def section . I replaced the La7876N ic chip and were i think it shorted d407 and d402 and the fusible resistors . But while soldering in the LA7876N ic the copper connections got overheated and damaged , So i replaced the P/N LAC10219 board with one that was out of a AV-48wp30 P/N CKG0256-AM1-1 only because it looked identical (used part). But now that it's replaced i get sound but no picture (Any ideas would help) not sure maybe the av-48wp30 P/N CKG0256-AM1-1 will not work in my tv i have. I did notice a reistor is not on the av-48wp30 CKG0256-AM1-1 board but its on my LAC10219 board. Also the sub def pb assy (maybe onsreen board)is allot different looks the same but the green side is different. So i am using all the av-48wp30 parts (P/N CKG0256-AM1-1)on the left side of the tv which could be the problem, but it does hook up the same way and to the right side board. Any Ideas and thoughts would be allot of help Sound but no picture i hear the channels and snow ,picture screen i see the red green and blue in the form of 3 wavey lines in the top center the rest is black and no OSD onsreen display If you need anymore info email me

Number 1- don't spin your wheels on the replacement board repair the old, it can't be unrepairable. As for the over heating of the conv ic's not normal. Since you changed the conv bd and they still over heat, if I had the set I would do a reset of the registers in the service convergence mode then re-center the grn then red then blue and that will be with the centering magnets and yoke on the crt's, If you don't have a template for that then you will have to make good old fashion geometry measurement's, the green is first, every line straight vert, horz, and spaced, with of coarse the cross in the middle will be dead ctr. The overheating problem can be because the register settings are advanced to far do to corrections thru out the years with comp's changing in value and us compensating with adjusting the convergence.

The only thing I can think of for the overheating is a possible bad yoke, and again, the register settings, not the auto convergence. If your vcc to the ic's is good then that takes care of the supply. The only things left are what I mentioned, providing the ic's are ok.

I'm looking for a replacement convergence board for my Jvc AV48WP74 tv. SSB-5068A-M2 I've replaced the STK392-150 ic's already and after a week they failed again. JVC does not return my calls.

A Google search for the board part number returned several sources. Here's one. You should also check the values of resistors around the STK's. When the IC's fail, the resistors can change value which can cause the repeat failure you're experiencing.
