Re: stop button not working
A stop button is just an on off switch or a monitary off(Short) switch which shorts out the primary to the coil. Either the switch is broken , the ground wire not making good ground or the primary wire to the switch is off. You can get any two position switch, (for example from radio shack) and replace it withhe noew on if the switch itself. Trace the two wires to see if they are connected. Most likely is the ground one is off or disconnected.

Remove the air box cover and remove the air filter. You will see 2 screws going into the carburetor. These 2 screws hold the carburetor onto the saw. You must use care (and take a couple pictures) to see how the linkage fits back onto the carburetor. You will also see the choke and kill button on the left hand side. Take you time and you should be fine. The throttle linkage is the hard part.
This is caused by either a faulty stop switch (check for continuity with a multimeter), one of the leads has become detached from the switch or is broken, or the lead from the switch to the chassis of the saw has gone open circuit. The stop button functions by shorting the output voltage of the magneto coil to ground.
