Question about LG 42PC3D 42 in. Plasma Television

1 Answer

LG 42PC3D-UD plasma tv takes 22 minutes to turn on

This does not appear to be warmup related. Whenever the TV is turned off and back on again, it consistently takes about 22 and 1/2 minutes to turn on. Also, the volume is stuck at level 6.

Does this sound like a problem on the control board?

    brianbuy,

I unplugged the tv for 8 hours, plugged it back in again and found that it still has the same problem. It does seem that the power supply is a likely candidate. I will also explore the main board and the digital control board. Unfortunately, the service manual doesn't have alot of detail for probing waveforms but is a good start. There is some digital testing that requires reading the contents stored in memory by use of a computer and some special equipment that I don't have. I will proceed with a DMM and oscilloscope and keep one hand in my pocket for safety.

    Thank you for the suggestion.

I'd like to thank everyone for their help. I began to proceed with those ideas and a few of my own until I found that LG is on a consumer relations drive and will supply me with free parts even though my tv is out of warranty. There is a very good chance that the problem is the main board and the lowest price I can find on the internet for that board is $305 before sales tax and shipping. If there is another problem then I have to ship the board back at my expense, assuming that's an option, and buy a different board. The free parts deal comes with the stipulation that an LG certified repair shop, in this case, Video Sonic Labs, perform the work. They now have a blank check for parts and will charge me an absolute maximum of $250 (maybe less) to do a full diagnostic checkout and repair. The checkout is performed with software and an interface jig that I don't have and am not sure how to obtain. The best news is that this gives a technician work for another day in this ailing economy. LG is having trouble selling their parts anyway, for the first time in 6 months, I have a job coming in, my tv will be in brand new condition, and a tech will get to feed his family a few extra meals. I have a good track record for repairing electronic devices and would normally dive right in, but, under the circumstances, I will gladly delegate the work.

The tech and I are on the same wavelength because we are both proficient in electronics. If he finds something interesting or useful that I can pass on, I'll post it.

    Thanks again everyone!

Option 1
If you or your husband have some electronic experience, if you can find and purchase a Service Manual over the internet; It will help you diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20. And most cases the new part cost less than $15.

Option 2
http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=42PC3D-UD
This link sells repacement boards for your TV. If you know which ones the tech said are bad, you can order them and replace the board yourself.

Option 3
Pay $475.00 to get it fixed. :(

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.
