Garage door opener chain out of sync with door

I just bought a foreclosure home. The part of the garage door opener chain that the garage door hooks to is located about 8-12 inches forward of the piece that hooks to the piece on the chain. How can I adjust the chain to move it back about 8-12 inches so the piece on the garage door can latch to the piece on the chain?

There are two white screws on the sides that adjust the limits. Adjust the "down" screw less. You should have to turn the screw 4 full turns for eight inches. After you make this adjustment, test it without the door being hooked up to prevent damage to the door or opener if it tries to close too far.

I have found what i need to know for my opening garage i hope that it's gonna work out. we bought that house without notice the code and have the remote for it

Not sure why this is posted under computers... Get a ladder and take the cover off the garage door opener (part hooked up to the rail)
  • If you see a whole bunch of switches, this is your openers "password" so buy a remote that also has manual switches and set it the same as the ones on your opener and the remote will work.
  • If the garage door opener as a "sync" button, buy a remote that also has a sync button. Press and release the button on the garage door opener then press and release the button on the remote and they will sync up.
Comment back if you need more help.

Bought a foreclosure home have no manual how do i get the keypad outside garage door to open the door. Thanks

Locate the smart/learn button on the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go. Press and immediately release this and then walk over to the keypad and key in any 4 digit code you like. If the battery is good and the keypad is not broken this should take care of it. It would also help in the future if you post the make and model number.

I Have a Liftmaster Professional Formula 1 garage door opener. When we press button on wall or garage door opener, we hear the motor going but the garage door doesn't do anything. Do I need a new opener?

Hi,
There is a rope or string hanging down that releases the dog that hooks the door to the chain...if someone pulled that the door will not open. You need to pull down and back on the srting to relaese the dog and then push the door up to catch the chain...then the door will work again...

Garage door opener closes when closed

Try this: Loosen the chain enough that you can remove it from the sprocket above the motor. Now run the opener until the sprocket turns in the clockwise direction and stops. Reconnect the chain. This will get everything in sync and you will have to tweak the 'up and down limits' a bit to get it just right.

Craftsman garage door opener 1/2 hp will not open door

It sounds like your chain is out of sync with the limit switches. Loosen the chain enough so that you can remove it from the sprocket on top of the motor unit. Now run the opener until the sprocket runs counterclockwise and stops. Now with everything attached and the door in the open position replace and tighten the chain. You are now in sync. You may need to tweak the up and down limit controls which are on the side of the motor unit.

2 flashes is a safety eye issue, but you problen is most likely that the chain is not sync with the limit setting. Take the bottom off the gear and sprocket assemble and rotate center limit srew until it is in the same position as the trolley.
