Re: i get a thin line of distortion on my sony xbr 42in
Your format is wrong. Make sure that your tv is in full mode and your direct tv is in 1080i stretch mode. This should correct the problem. Also, WB is having problems. This is common on their channel. If it is happening on any other channel, try the above. Hope this helps. JOHN

This video covers how to fix a Panasonic 42" Plasma TV model TH-42PX600U that has vertical distorted ...
if the line is pixel thin, it could be a bad lcd panel. if it is a wider bar, it may be in the video circuitry. many of these sony tvs had bad panels, and sony has extended the warranty. call up sony with your model and serial # and date of purchase and try to get them to help you out, that is your best course of action. let me know if you need more troubleshooting assitance.
If these are single pixels on the LCD screen, they are normal. From pg. 8 of the user's guide:
"The LCD monitor is manufactured using extremely high-precision technology so over 99.99% of the pixels are operational for effective use. However, there may be some tiny black points and/or bright points (white, red, blue or green in color) that constantly appear on the LCD monitor. These points are normal in the manufacturing process and do not affect the images in any way. "
This may also be helpful.
"images may trail across the LCD monitor in a cold location. This is not a malfunction. When turning on the camera in a cold location, the LCD monitor may become temporarily dark. "
Thin white dashes on top of screen is PERFECTLY NORMAL. It is nothing wrong with the TV, it is the broadcast. What you are seeing is the very bottom of the timecode running. It doesn't happen all of the time or all channels. It usually happens with old 4:3 commercials predating "Digital TV." This is mentioned in your Users Manual. You should be able to adjust the horizontal/vertical position in the menu settings.
First, HORIZONTAL CENTER. 1) Press MENU. 2) Scroll to SETTINGS. 3) Scroll to SCREEN. 4) Go to HORIZONTAL CENTER. Move the picture to the right. Hopefully, the line will go away. Otherwise, there is a problem with the pixels or the signal processor. Call 1-800-222-SONY. Or, http://eservice.sony.com. Have a high-limit credit card handy for out of warranty repairs. Sorry about that.
If you have the images in your computer them click on the 'Add image to your post' instruction and follow the prompts.
But from what you tell me this appears to be a CCD problem and the camera should be returned to the vendor if under warranty or contact the Customer support at Nikon other wise. for the camera to be replaced
